Beaulieu is proud to hold Visit Britain’s ‘We’re Good to Go’ industry standard, with COVID-19 safety measures as part of their visitor safety promise meaning Totton & District Gardeners’ Society are saddened to report the death of their long standing popular and greatly respected President Vera Blundell just a few weeks a er she celebrated her 101st birthday. Vera had been President of Totton Gardeners since 1994 when she succeeded her late husband Harold. Vera was a resident at Hartwood House Rest Home in Lyndhurst at the time of her death. Vera was a great support to the Society over many years, regularly attending their functions, visits and holidays and was always ready to attend our shows and present the awards. She was still regularly visiting the shows up until 2019, and one of the last functions she attended before the COVID-19 lockdown was a special lunch held to commemorate her Key Worker by Shaun Gagg 100th birthday. Vera’s passing brings to an end a dynasty of the Haysom/ Blundell connection as Presidents of the Society. Vera’s late father Cyril Haysom, a well-known local horticulturalist was the Society’s founding President in 1954. He was succeeded by Vera’s late husband Harold Blundell in 1964 and Vera succeeded Harold when he stood down due to failing health in 1994. All our presidents have been from the same family over a 67 year period. Quite a record!! Vera was a lovely lady who will be greatly missed not only by her family, but by the members of Totton Gardeners and the many other local organisations she belonged to. We send our deepest condolences to the family at this time. Vera Blundell In Memory of Vera Blundell by John Raffle, Vice President, Life Member and Archivist that all visitors can safely enjoy their day out. Visit: www.beaulieu.co.uk for more information.
