13th May 2021 • The HERALD • Page 41 v THE NEXT HERALD IS OUT ON 3RD JUNE v WE CARE, YOU CARE God’s Heart in the Community Members of St. Andrew’s & All Saints’ Churches and many in the local community contributed toward a colourful display of handmade cra ed hearts which were xed to the fence alongside St. Andrew’s Church in Dibden Purlieu over the Easter period in April. Mrs Viv Hutchinson, who is a member of St. Andrew’s Church was the inspiration behind the vision to create something that would be a visible sign in the community of God’s love, and that the church was very much alive. Viv writes: “I have seen an empty car park and church for many months, and to the casual passer-by it looks like the church may have closed up and gone home for the duration of the lockdown. I wondered what I would like to tell that passer-by? The answer that came to me was that if I had the nerve, I would like to go up to them and tell them that God loves them, whoever they are, whatever they have done, however they are feeling, that doesn’t change. What better way than by having banners that declared that message alongside hundreds of hearts tied to the fence in full view of everyone going by on foot, by car or on the buses. The church members and the community have all got involved with the making of these hearts all wanting to be part of that message.” It has been a wonderful response and they counted up 835 hearts, all individually made. ere has also been many messages of support and encouragement received on-line and by passers-by. A highlight was a visit by residents and sta from Little Haven Care Home in Dibden Purlieu who also contributed to the display. e church later distributed some of these hearts to local care homes, and invited remaining hearts to be collected by anyone in the community.
