However Site Manager, Mandy Leigh, is very happy to announce an ‘OpenWeekends’ on May 15th and 16th and June 5th & 6th 10.30am to 4pm. ere will be the usual impressive range of plants (annual and perennial) for sale and some woodwork. Refreshments will be available. Mandy said : “We are all very excited to be welcoming back our loyal customers on-site. We’re now extremely busy preparing the nursery, bringing on the plants and making up some hanging baskets and containers.” e Nursery is home to a resident mouse family and as lovely as the new team members are, they are ‘encouraging’ them to relocate by placing co ee grounds, mint, holly leaves and coarse grit around. ey even hang their plant trays on trapezes from the greenhouse ceilings and ‘dress’ their bench legs in upside down pots to deter climbing mice but it’s not working!. Although they are happy to share, they keep nding plants munched and seeds removed! Copthorne Nursery and gardens supports adults with learning disabilities by o ering a variety of opportunities including:- bespoke work experience, learning new skills; horticultural and social, developing interests, exploring new activities, enjoying therapeutic experiences, giving time to constructive activities and making a positive contribution to the environment and community. Blackfield Flower Club are looking forward to Spring and Summer and less restrictions. They hope to be able to have meetings again after 21st June. With this in mind, they are planning to have a social meeting on Tuesday 13th July , if restrictions allow, to catch up with the members. More details about this nearer the time. e Club have plans for demonstrations, etc. up to December but this will be very much dependent on the situation a er the Summer.
