It was at that precise moment that the room lit up. From above, the Super Pink Moon shone full force through the skylight above the desk, giving the grey clay blob a pink aura. The aura filled the room making it quite pink, giving the cold room a warm feeling. The blob of clay felt sure it was softening, something strange was happening, the clay was changing shape, no longer a ball but an elongated shape. Moon Magic had taken over. The Solent Spider Crab claws 1st place small plaque with information about the subsea environment and HIWTT. An on-line poll saw the spider crab get the highest number of votes and will be the subject that the artist painted on the pier over the weekend of 12th & 13th June. e mural will be mounted on the exterior wall of the waiting room which volunteers from The Shed (at the Pier) have cleaned and painted. e artwork will be one of a series forming a “mural path” depicting undersea life along the Solent and Southampton Water promoting the underwater environment. HPHA which is hoping the mural will increase the number of visitors to Hythe Pier. Alongside the mural will be a Blob and Moon Magic is the second fiction book by popular local author Veronica Ewen . Veronica, originally from Fawley, rst grabbed the Herald’s attention twelve months ago, with her wonderful book ‘Daisy’ which is centred around a little girl of the same name. It features many of the local areas so familiar to our readers (‘Tin Town’ in particular) and talks of days gone by - a time of cart horses, swimming in the creek, going to bed by candlelight and drawing water from the well. ‘Daisy’ has been wonderfully received and is a popular choice for those wanting a special read or a gi for those that remember the area so well. Inspired by the success of Daisy and, like so many of us in 2020, with time on her hands, Veronica took to pen and paper yet again. However, this book was to be quite di erent to the rst and grew out of Veronica’s love for art and cra s. Whilst sculpting a clay model one day Veronica found herself forming a small clay gure, which organically morphed into the main character of her new book. e new book centres around ‘Blob’ who comes to life when the phenomenal Super Pink Moon warms the night sky with its magic and powers. With physical characteristics like no other, it’s easy to instantly warm to Blob who, minute-by-minute, is discovering who he is and what he is capable of. Blob meets a friend, Mouse, who is poles-apart from him, yet they become close, and the relationship thrives as they accept each other’s unique nature and di erences. Based within a school, the two companions go on nightly adventures, meet new characters, and form an everlasting friendship. With beautiful, detailed illustrations, Veronica is also an incredibly talented artist. is book is a feast for the eyes, and you can’t help but be warmed by the sentiment of the story.
