Marchwood’s two volunteer Speedwatch teams have started up again a er a long COVID-19 break. One covers the tra c passing through and around the Village and the second the area of Marchwood on the Forest side of the A326, including Twiggs Lane and Beaulieu Road. ey work together to discourage speeding by recording and reporting to the Police the registration numbers of vehicles exceeding the speed limit. e whole operation is closely supported by the Parish Council and local Police, who provide coordination and the necessary equipment. e aim is to impress upon drivers how strongly they feel about intimidating tra c speed as much as it is to catch o enders. ey quite deliberately make themselves as visible as possible. ey operate in teams of three or four and vary locations continuously for about an hour at a time. e more people there are, the clearer the message to motorists that to drive through the Village above the speed limit is unacceptable and disrespectful to the people of Marchwood. e more volunteers they have, Slow Down!
