If you like to walk, go along and join Roving Ramblers for their monthly walks. They meet on the second Wednesday of each month, starting at 10am for a 2 to 2½ hour walk. Saturday 3rd July sees one of the highlights of the year when Shieldhall visits the yachts taking part in the Round the Island Race. e race regularly attracts over 1,700 boats and around 16,000 sailors, making it one of the largest yacht races in the world and the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK a er the London Marathon and the Great North and South Runs. On her return to berth guests can witness the spectacle of scheduled cruise ships Celebrity Silhouette and MSC Virtuosa departing the port of Southampton – always the chance for Shieldhall to sound her whistle and play the ‘Shieldhall Organ’! The Round the Island Race sailing departs at 10am, returning at 6pm, and tickets are £52.50 adults, and £13 children. Family bundle tickets are also available. e following day Sunday 4th July sees an American Independence Day Cruise with the fabulous Soulcatchers providing musical entertainment on board. Southampton has a great connection with America and this will be explored through a commentary on board. e American Independence Day Cruise departs at 2pm, returning at 6pm, and tickets are £44 adults and £13 children, with family bundle tickets again available. Further Shieldhall sailings in July include a trip to the near mythical Nab Tower on Saturday 17th July , and a trip to mark 200 years of steamships operating out of Southampton. For this latter sailing Shieldhall is welcoming the Selsea Shantymen, whilst the presence of local SteamPunk groups promises lots of colour and spectacle. As part of a cruise, Shieldhall o ers guests the opportunity to see the impressive engine room with its original steam engines at work and the bridge, with its traditional instruments and gleaming brasswork; to admire the ship’s steam assisted steering gear (similar to that used on Titanic); to talk to the Captain and her volunteer crew; to listen to an informed commentary on the race and the sights and sounds of Southampton Water and e Solent; to pass close to the great ocean liners and container ships; to walk the teak decks; relax in the Saloon with a wide range of refreshments including tea/co ee; real ale; a range of Titanic bottled beers; wine and hot and cold food, available on all trips. Call & Go is a vital service that provides door-to-door transport from people’s homes to their chosen destination. Customers can travel for shopping and social visits if they cannot use regular public transport. Vehicles are wheelchair accessible and drivers are trained to o er assistance to passengers. By providing reliable and accessible transport, the service helps customers to make plans, ful l errands, and maintain independence. Call & Go is operating regular passenger services Monday to Friday for the routes listed below. Additionally, transport to medical and vaccination appointments may be available on request. Coastal area including New Milton, Lymington, Brockenhurst, Milford on Sea, Barton, Hordle, Everton and Sway. Waterside area including Fawley, Hythe, Black eld, Dibden Purlieu and Marchwood. Totton area including Ashurst, Lyndhurst, Cadnam, Winsor and Eling. Fordingbridge area including Martin, Mockbegger, Ibsley and Sandleheath. Central New Forest including Lymington, Brockenhurst and Sway To ensure the safety of passengers and drivers, face coverings are required inside vehicles. e service will maintain social distancing by limiting passenger numbers. Call & Go therefore recommends that customers book in advance as early as possible to secure their journey. We are here to help anyone who needs accessible transport now that shops and services are re-opening.
