Page 42 • The HERALD • 24th June 2021 v SAY YOU SAW IT IN THE HERALD v WE CARE, YOU CARE Getting Out & About It looks like summer is nally here (well it did at the time of writing this article!) and with more and more places opening back up in the area, it’s no wonder everyone is keen to get out and about. is is all extremely exciting, if you have the means, physical capability or assistance of another to help you enjoy the outside world – but if you are living alone and don’t have family or friends locally to lean on then you can feel isolated, frustrated and depressed – all contributing factors to poor physical and mental health. Maybe its time to invest in some help. At Waterside Home Help they understand their services give people freedom, reassurance and most importantly con dence. ey enhance the day to day lives of so many within the community. Whether its cleaning and laundry, shopping, medication reminders, meal preparation, welfare checks or companionship, they take the time to get to know everyone and care for them as if a member of their own family. Recently more and more people are nding they can stay in their own home with the help of someone like Ruth Coumbe who started Waterside Home Help a er years of working in the care sector. Ruth quickly Irene enjoying a coffee and a chat at Fairweather’ Garden Centre realised that in many cases all people need to enable them to stay in their own home is assistance. It’s about having that regular, familiar face popping by everyday to do whatever tasks need doing. Ruth explains: “Sometimes its not about a person receiving 3 or 4 quick, personal care visits a day, sometimes its about sitting with that person whilst they enjoy a meal I’ve prepared for them, or making sure the medication is collected and all up to date. It may be that they can manage light housework, but the cupboards need a sort out or paperwork needs addressing. Now that we can get out and about it’s also a privilege to take people to their favourite places once again, going to a garden centre, the library, the café for a natter (and maybe a treat!) – That’s where we come in. Knowing your loved one is happy, being cared and looked after provides so much reassurance to the whole family” With exible care rates, individual needs are at the heart of what Waterside Home Help is all about.
