Right on the doorstep of this family run garden centre, planning started. Patrick Fairweather, the owner of Fairweather’s, along with Rachel Foster the Head Gardener from Patrick’s Patch, an educational and produce garden that Fairweather’s runs with the help of volunteers and local school children, decided to take the concept of Patrick’s Patch to the show, so that everyone could see exactly what they do. e judges thought this was wonderful and awarded them with the only platinum award of the day as the Best Beautiful Border. e border included wooden vegetables painted by the oldest volunteer Joe who is in his 90’s to handmade bees made by year 6 at Wildground Primary School. e old baked bean tins symbolised how the plants were sold in the garden centre 60 years ago. e pot man and knitted vegetables was made by volunteers. e attention to detail from Peter Rabbit to the Hedgehog hotel kept all the visitors to the show entertained and inspired. Patrick Fairweather said: “The border really did reflect the whole team’s input and showed everything we do in Patrick’s Patch in to a small 6x3m bed. It promoted the importance of engaging children in gardening, helping them appreciate where food comes from and showing them how gardening in harmony with wildlife and nature is the most sustainable future for growing our own food. We are delighted to have won this award.” Patrick’s Patch embraces the whole community and is open to visits from local Primary school children and special-needs groups who can go and enjoy hands-on gardening activities. e team garden with nature is a haven for wildlife and a peaceful retreat for visitors Patrick’s Patch is located on Beaulieu High Street, is open 7 days per week, and is free to enter!
