Monthly programme is as follows: 1st July – Demonstration by M & M and social evening 5th August - Practical Evening 2nd September - to be con rmed 7th October – Show Night (bring your own oral displays - not compulsory! Competition to raise money for charities). 4th November – Presentation by Pip Bensley 2nd December – Christmas Party – owers, fun and games! Please remember to bring your own refreshments. Summer is coming and we can all become more sociable. Knowing about edible owers could spice up a salad and make a colourful treat for the eyes or make pretty cake or dessert decorations. Things to try: Hollyhock petals and leaves, a mild marshmallow avour. Use in salads and sh dishes. Lavender owers have a strong avour which can be bitter. Use sparingly in biscuits, scones and herbal teas. Rose petals are rich in antioxidants. Nasturtium owers and leaves have a peppery avour. Use in salads, stir-fries and curries. Sun ower buds, petals and seeds. ey have a nutty avour which can be bitter. Use in bread, biscuits, cakes, as a vegetable (steam). Viola, whole ower, mildly sweet. Can be used to decorate cakes, as a garnish, or in salads and sandwiches. Carnation petals have a peppery/clove like avour and can be used in salads, meat dishes or desserts e.g. cheesecakes. Pansies whole owers, mildly sweet avour. Use as a garnish, salads, sandwiches, cake decorations and fruit salads. Have fun livening up your plates! Edible flowers add sunshine to any plate Black eld Flower Club are looking forward to the Summer and less restrictions now that the vaccination programme is proceeding at such a rate and they hope will be able to have meetings again. With this in mind, they are planning to have a social meeting on Tuesday 13th July , if restrictions allow, to catch up with the members. More details about this nearer the time. e Club have plans for demonstrations, etc. up to December but this will be very much dependent on the situation a er the Summer.
