Most of the books Simon’s involved in are children’s picture books, but Ceratopia Books have been working on a non- ction title with local author Alan Titheridge. e Heartbeat Of Hythe is the 100-year- old story of the Hythe Pier Railway. ere are many more books besides. Many of Simon’s titles are available from e Herald o ce, WHSmith Local in Dibden Purlieu, and direct from www. ceratopiabooks.co.uk. If you and your little ones enjoyed A Seal Swam In From The Sea , then you’ve so much more to explore! Many of you have bought Simon Chadwick’s A Seal Swam In From The Sea , in aid of the Hythe Ferry, but were unaware of his other books. Simon’s rst book came about just after he’d completed his A-levels. Frustrated by the sight of litter in the New Forest, he wrote and illustrated a story about rubbish from the animals’ point of view. e resulting book, New Forest Friends & The Litterbugs , was published by New Forest District Council, had a foreword provided by Chris Packham, and went on to be the story of the day on BBC’s PlayDays. Two more books in the series followed, with Simon eventually taking over the publishing duties directly. This publishing venture, Ceratopia Books, has grown to encompass several collaborations with other authors, including Longdown’s Farmer Bryan. at range alone comprises seven picture books, two early-reader novels, an activity book, and a non- ction book on keeping chickens. Simon has also illustrated two books set at Hatchet Pond in the forest, both of which are written by Val Anne Lee. Another of Val’s stories became a book about looking a er your teeth featuring a grumpy monkey. Not all the collaborations are local, either. Simon illustrated and co-wrote four books with Dr Steven Howard of the University of Wollongong in Australia. e books are all aimed at pre-school children to aid their cognitive development and problem-solving abilities. en, last year, during lockdown, Simon illustrated Treasure Beyond Measure , which he describes as the most detailed book he’s worked on to date. It’s a book about collective nouns for groups of animals, but at its heart it’s actually about preserving the wildlife we share the planet with. e book’s author, Helen Gri ths, lives in New Zealand and it’s been a huge success over there, receiving praise from New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern, Prince William, and a hand-written letter from Sir David Attenborough. Consequently, Local Author Illustrator Simon Chadwick supports the Hythe Ferry with his latest children’s book
