The Eling Tide Mill, its gift shop, adjacent Visitor Centre, Mill Café and the surrounding riverside walks, combine to form The Eling Tide Mill Experience. Visitors can step back in time and enjoy learning about the workings of the mill and discover how the tide is harnessed to power the centuries old machinery to grind wheat into our. e mills mesmerizing machinery can be seen in full glorious action through glazed panels. e mills fascinating story and history continues in the Discovery Room where interactive displays include opportunities for visitors of all ages to get hands on with quern stones and a working model of a tide mill. Fully accessible paths and boardwalks enable everyone access to the wildlife and plant life in these areas of special scienti c interest as they enjoy walks around the mill pond (Bartley Water) and to Goatee Beach. e water surrounding the mill is also full of crabs creating fun for the children. After all this, why not stop for refreshments in the Mill Café where you can sample sandwiches made using their very own Tide Mill Flour. Until the end of July the café is offering Herald readers 15% off lunchtime food when you quote ‘July Herald Café 15’ so there really is no better time to visit! Of course, you don’t need to have the full Tide Mill Experience every time, the café & gi shop is open to the public when the Tide Mill is open, Wednesday to Sundays 10.30am to 5pm . You can even take a piece of them home with you by purchasing their freshly milled wholemeal our, available in a 1.5kg bag for £3. e wheat used comes from local farm, Manor of Cadland, and carries with it the New Forest Marque. Getting Hands on at the Eling Tide Mill Experience Walking for Health at Lepe We all know that walking outdoors in the fresh air can increase mental and physical wellness, so why not join this new group for a 3-mile walk around the park at a leisurely pace. Meeting at 9.30am every Thursday outside e Lookout this is the perfect place to get your dose of Vitamin Sea! ey will be doing a circular walk which will include Lepe Point Conservation Area where dogs, unfortunately are not permitted. TOTTON SOUTH U3A ere will be a car boot sales at Memorial Car Park, Totton, on Sunday 18th July and Saturdays 1st and 15th August from 9am until 12noon. No booking is required. Any size car £5 and the area is hard standing. Set distancing pitches and please bring your own tables. CAR BOOT SALE New Forest Waterside U3A next meeting will be on Tuesday 20th July with a talk by Howard Nichols titled ‘ e Longest Journey’. A Zoom talk commencing at 2pm. Whilst waiting for your train at your local station, have you ever wondered how far you could go without changing stations, and you must leave from the station you arrived at. Where in the world would you end up? e speaker set out to do just that, and guess where he nally nished up…? Not heard of U3A? Pop along as a guest and see for yourself. It’s a group that’s open to men and women who are retired or semi-retired, usually over 50’s. ere are many interest groups you might like to get involved with, i.e. history, scrabble, gardening as well as interesting and varied speakers, lunches in local restaurants, trips to interesting places and all for £10 per year membership. New Forest Waterside U3A usually meets in St Andrew’s Hall at St Andrew’s Church, Dibden Purlieu on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday a ernoon of the month at 2pm. New member are always welcome.
