Organiser Kathryn Ashdown, Operations Manager at Gang Warily Recreation Centre said: “The weather wasn’t on our side today, but we still had some volunteers. We collected 6 full bags of rubbish in two hours, so it was worthwhile. If you would like to get involved in a litter pick, head over to the Keep Britain Tidy website where, rather than join a litter pick, you have the option to pledge your time whenever you are available”. Chairman of Fawley Parish Council Cllr Alan Alvey said: “Special thanks should go to Kathryn for so efficiently organising the morning, and to the Hideaway Cafe for a very welcome cup of coffee on our return. It was good to get out and receive recognition from the public for the volunteer’s efforts”. He also took the opportunity to thank the volunteers that litter pick throughout the year, using the equipment provided by Fawley Parish Council. eir e orts are much appreciated. Credit is also due to the sta of Fawley Parish Council and NFDC whose duties involve clearing up the litter dropped by thoughtless members of the public. Despite the rain, the selfless volunteers went above and beyond for their community LIONS SUPPORT HAMPSHIRE FOSTERING NETWORK e Hampshire Fostering Network is a not-for-pro t registered charity which has been set up to assist and support foster parents in looking a er many of Hampshire’s most vulnerable children, who have been removed from their families and placed in the care of the local authority. Foster carers aim to help the children through some of the most traumatic episodes in their young lives helping them to adapt to new lifestyles. One way to help support Foster Families is to run events and activities for looked a er children to build self-esteem in a secure environment that will leave them with some great memories. e Hampshire Fostering Network, which is a registered charity, is putting together a project with Hampshire Outdoors, a department in Hampshire County Council, to give over 100 young people a week of outdoor adventure at a residential setting in August. is project will allow young people to come together with other young people in a similar situation to them, develop skills such as leadership, teamwork, resilience and to make lifelong friends in a week of fun and adventure. Romsey & Waterside Lions have donated to this worthy cause and hope that all participants will enjoy their time at the event.
