Winning this prestigious award last year, the pandemic meant that the presentation of the award was delayed. But on Monday 26th July, an audience of YFM sta , volunteers and guests were delighted to be part of the formal presentation. Nigel Atkinson Esq, HM Lord- Lieutenant of Hampshire presented the certi cate and award to Ray Maher, Chairman of the Trustees for YFM. Ray Maher, Chair of the Trustees, comments : “What a brilliant morning. It was great to be together to receive the award from the Lord-Lieutenant. We are immensely proud to receive it. This is an amazing achievement for us and rightly recognises our fantastic volunteers who regularly give their time and skills to support our work.” Commenting on the award, Nigel Atkinson Esq, Lord- Lieutenant of Hampshire: “I was thrilled to be able to present the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to YFM. This award is the highest award given to volunteer groups in the UK and YFM are just one of 48 charities in Hampshire that have been recognised in this way since the awards began in 2002. It was a truly delightful morning being able to meet staff and volunteers who so obviously love what they do to support the local community. I congratulate them all.” YFM comprises of over 50 volunteers alongside 16 members of sta , and works to improve the wellbeing of children, young people and families in Totton. In a typical year, YFM will support more than 2,000 individuals through their programme of 1:1 support, groups, activities, courses and a food bank. It also runs the Chapel Café and Treasure Box charity shop.
