Opening the new restaurant, Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Keith Mans, said: “I am absolutely delighted to announce the opening of the wonderful new Garden Restaurant in Jermyn’s House. Visitors can enjoy delicious food made from fresh local produce in stunning surroundings and boasting unique botanical views. The beautiful interiors of the original Jermyn’s House have also been expertly restored, offering spaces for events and special occasions. It is especially pleasing that the much-loved family home of the Garden’s visionary founder, Sir Harold Hillier, has been given a new lease of life. I would like to thank all the supporters of this inspiring project. The Sir Harold Hillier Gardens is an arboretum of national significance and a popular visitor attraction all year round. As COVID-19 restrictions ease, we would like even more people to experience this horticultural gem, and its first-rate facilities.” All visitors to e Sir Harold Hillier Gardens - members and day visitors – can enjoy the Garden Restaurant which is open every day o ering freshly cooked brunch and lunch options, including vegan and vegetarian choices. A decadent Garden Restaurant a ernoon tea is also available, prepared on site by the in-house pastry chef and chocolatier. Priced at £17.50 per person, the a ernoon tea is visually stunning, o ering nger sandwiches, homemade scones, strawberry preserve, clotted cream, and fresh strawberries alongside a selection of delicious mini-cakes and pastries, all decorated with botanical ourishes. e new Garden Restaurant and function rooms are available to hire for corporate events, special family occasions and can cater for small intimate groups as well as larger gatherings. e new eatery is in addition to the existing food and drink options at e Sir Harold Hillier Gardens o ering a variety of hot and cold drinks, light meals, cakes, and ice creams, including child-friendly picnic packs. e 180-acre garden and Arboretum near Romsey were established in 1953 by the distinguished plantsman Sir Harold Hillier, and showcases owers, trees and plants from all over the world. It is home to some 14 national plant collections and more than 600 champion trees – the largest collection of any garden in Britain; champion trees being the best examples of their species. Last year the Gardens attracted 200,000 visitors. e design of the new extension and heritage restoration of the original rooms has been managed by Hampshire County Council’s award- winning Property Services Design team supported by contractors Dorelbury Ltd.
