Joe Traykov and Andy Wort spent three months combining and an old tandem and an internal door to create the unique machine. e plucky pedallers, who belong to the New Forest Lodge that meets in the town, have been raising money for NHS charities while dressed in scrubs and masks. Andy said: “We tried to think of a unique way of doing our fundraising and the idea for the door was from a dream one of the members had. We call it the ‘Door to Recovery’ and people have been extremely generous. Every year we do something to raise money and we are still collecting through our Just Giving page.” People wishing to support the NHS Charities can donate at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/friend- raiser You are not seeing things; (left to right) Andy Wort & Joe Traykov really are raising funds riding a door! Because of the lack of opportunity to carry out face to face fundraising events, Hythe & Waterside Rotary launched their Charity of the Month scheme earlier this year, which allowed their members and the local public to donate to a chosen charity each month. In March of this year, the Handy Trust received £105 in donations, in April, Waterside Cancer Support received £185, in May £45 was donated to Honeypot, and in June Solent Dolphin were donated £140. e nal charity to bene t from the project is Age Concern New Forest who, as the July chosen charity, received £135 in donations. e project was designed to allow people to donate to local good causes electronically, either by bank transfer, by text or by using the website links. Many members of Hythe & Waterside Rotary made donations during a time when they were not able to meet in person. ank you to everyone who supported this initiative so generously. ‘Charity of the Month’ has now ended but if you would like to know about Hythe & Waterside Rotary’s current projects and fundraising events, please visit their website: www.hwrotary. org or telephone: 023 8181 8187.
