Bramshott Hill Seniors held the rst round of the Seniors Championship on Monday 19th July. e championship consists of two rounds of golf played from the White Tees and the game format is Medal. Playing from the White Tees is the longest format of the course and is therefore the most challenging. e game was played in Medal format which is again the most challenging format of the game. Combining these two ensures that only the very best player on the day can win. On completion of the rst round Mark Eve and Stuart Bulbrooke were leading and could not be separated, both having net scores of 87. Close behind in third place was Ian Blan dford with a net score of 93. e second round was played on Monday 26th July. Again, the match was from the White Tees and in medal format. With two players on scores of 87 much was anticipated. Could one of these players win or could someone come from behind and overtake them both? On completion neither of these happened. Both Mark Eve and Stuart Bulbrooke completed the second round with scores of 82 net. is gave them total scores of 169 net over the two rounds. Sadly for Stuart, Mark won the day on the “Countback” rule. erefore, Mark is the 2021 Bramshott Hill Seniors Champion and Stuart is the runner up. ird place was taken by Ian Blandford with a net score of 177. On Monday 2nd August, 41 Bramshott Hill Senior players set out to contest the Anniversary Salver Competition. is competition is played over two rounds. e rst round was a Stableford game and the second will be a Medal game. When both rounds are completed, on Monday 9th, the Stableford score will be subtracted from the Medal score and the winner will be the player with the lowest nett score. Monday 2nd turned out to be a fairly calm day weatherwise, however the competition was erce. Leading the eld a er the rst round with 42 points is Alan Rogers . He is followed by two players on 41 points, namely Terry Wiseman and Gerald Murphy in third position is Michael Newman on 40 points. e Medal round will be played on Monday the 9th and it will be interesting to see if these players can maintain their positions. On ursday 5th August their Seniors Captain, John Gordon, organised an away day at South Winchester Golf Club, 24 players attended and the day started well as they were greeted in the club house with Co ee and Bacon Rolls. e game was a team Stableford game with other individual prizes to play for. ey set o in ne spirits and eager to play a di erent course. Within the hour the “Weather Gremlins” did their worst and the heavens opened. ey endured three hours of heavy rain but in spite of this they all completed the course and arrived back at the clubhouse in some very sorry states. Many players found that the “Wet Weather Clothing” that they had paid a lot of money for was just not up to the task and some very wet and bedraggled golfers gathered in the changing rooms, glad of the hot showers. However a ne meal of Steak and Ale pie, mashed Potatoes, Green beans, Carrots and gravy followed by Apple Pie and Ice cream, and with the help of a couple of drinks, soon restored the spirits. e results are as follows: e Captains teamof JohnGordon, TerryWiseman, Paul Wastell and Johnny Hooper , won the team event with a score of 141 points. John Manning won nearest the pin on the 2nd hole. John Bailey won Nearest the pin on the 11th hole. John Manning achieved the highest individual score of 41 points. e day was considered a great success and their thanks go to John for organising it, next year they will not inform the “Weather Gremlins” of their intentions. Bramshott Hill Seniors Results NFGC Seniors Captain’s Day A er a year’s delay due to COVID-19, New Forest Golf Club Seniors Captain Ian Coundon’s day nally arrived on ursday 5th August. Format was an individual stableford competition o the yellow tees – with a twist. Hole number 2 which is difficult at the best of times became “ e Captain’s Challenge” having to be played using a putter o the tee, and a driver (or longest other club) on the green! Despite this extra handicap, some Captain Ian Coundon (centre) with winners (left to right): Div1: Robin Swanston, Alan Clifford, Ross Matthews, Mike Broom; Div 2: Terry Jones, Dave Titchmarsh, John Ireland, Dave Stredder excellent scores were achieved. Division 1 : 1st Mike Broom 42 points, 2nd Ross Matthews also 42 points, 3rd Alan Clifford 40 points, 4th Robin Swanston 39 points. Division 2: 1st Terry Jones 42 points, 2nd Dave Stredder 40 points, 3rd Dave Titchmarsh 36 points. 4th John Ireland 35 points.
