New Forest Art: The Past and The Present, running until Sunday 17th October. Local artists Barry Peckham and Peter Frost have researched the locations in work by earlier artists, including Frederick Golden Short, Heywood Sumner, John Emms and Mrs W. Rawnsley. ey have then created their own landscape paintings of these locations and so the exhibition will feature the modern-day paintings alongside photographs of the original landscapes. All paintings are New Forest landscapes and show the changes that have occurred in the vegetation and land use over time, highlighting what has been lost and what has been retained. e exhibition will also include around y original paintings for sale as well as a brochure containing the modern and original landscapes side-by-side. On Wednesday 6th October , Barry and Peter will be holding a ‘Meet the Artist’ event in the gallery; all are welcome to this drop-in session. David Bailey: Wildlife Wanderings, running from Saturday 23rd October 2021 to 9th January 2022 e international award-winning David Bailey will be displaying magni cent wildlife photographs. David has the reputation for being one of the UK’s best photographers of hares; this exhibition will feature quality detailed images of hares amongst other wildlife, such as red squirrels, deer, and birds. In October 2020, David had his second book published by Halsgrove Publishing and this, along with many images from the exhibition, will be available to a hugely entertaining evening. Cancer Research UK’s Shine Night Walk, which is returning to the city, will take place on Saturday 16th October. Entries are open now for the 10k event where participants can raise funds for the area of life-saving research closest to their hearts. Walkers can choose to support di erent areas of scienti c research including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, brain cancer, children’s cancers and leukaemia. Or they can simply give their backing to Cancer Research UK’s overall work as the charity ghts back from the impact of the pandemic. The Shine Night Walk starts at Guildhall Square at 7.30pm and participants will take to the city streets in a fun and inspirational parade of light. e route will pass landmarks such as St Mary’s Stadium and SeaCity Museum. is year, participants will set o on the Shine Night Walk route either alone or in small, socially distanced groups. To enter or volunteer visit: www.shinewalk.org Light Up the Night Raising Funds in Memory of Simon Dawson The Old Mill in Holbury have raised £3000 in the memory of the Pub Manager, Simon Dawson who sadly died on 12th July. Simon was a permanent xture and the ‘face’ of the Old Mill for over 13 years. He is very much missed by sta and regulars alike. e Old Mill community raised the funds through donations along with a petangue tournament held on Sunday 29th August. e cheque was presented to the Fawley Falcons Football Club where Simon played as goalkeeper when he was younger. e winners of the petangue tournament were Steve Richards and Colin Wylie who were presented with a memorial plaque from Simon’s parents Vivienne and Ron Dawson.
