A er the rst round Alan Rogers was leading with a Stableford score of 42 points. He was closely followed by Terry Wiseman and Gerald Murphy on 41 points. e second round was played in Medal format and the winner is the player with the lowest score once the Stableford points were subtracted from the nett Medal score. 44 players took part and the competition was close. e nal winner was Mike Newland with an overall score of 23 points. He was followed by Terry Wiseman with a score of 32 points and third was Alan Rogers with a score of 33 points. Mike will be presented with his trophy at a presentation evening later in the year. Monday 16th August surprisingly was a bright sunny and calm day. 36 Bramshott Hill Seniors set out to play a Stableford competition with some very impressive scores being returned. With the weather nally being kind to them the spirits were high at the rst Tee as the rst group set out at 08:00. e game was played in ne spirits and that could account for the excellent scores returned. Division One: 1st John Brooks , 2nd Paul Wastell , 3rd Henry Porter ; Division Two: 1st Michael Newland, 2nd John Bailey , 3rd John Gordon . On Monday 23rd August 33 Bramshott Hill Seniors played a game of Yellow Peril. is is a friendly team format played for the fun without the pressure of a ecting the player’s handicap. Each team is given a Yellow Ball and each player in the three-man team plays the Yellow ball in rotation. e game is played in Stableford format, the main di erence being that only two players scores are counted at each hole, one of which must be the Yellow Ball, which if it scores, counts as double the points. e Yellow ball must therefore be played with caution as many points can be lost if the Yellow Ball is lost. e results are as follows: 1st G. Mercer, A. Rogers and R. Short with a score of 129; 2nd T. Douglas, R. Dunkason and J. Gorddon with a score of 128; 3rd B. Lewis, B. Merret and J. Mannin g with a score of 126. BHGC Seniors had a very successful day at the popular annual New Forest Golf Rally at the New Forest Golf Club. Played in perfect weather on the famous Forest course at Lyndhurst the Rally is a 4-player team event where the highest aggregate Stableford points scores decide the prizewinning teams. Bramshott ‘A’ (Brian Lewis, Rob Hallett, Johnny Hooper, Kevin Rothwell) were the winners of the Gales Trophy. Bramshott ‘B’ (Ray Dunkason, Paul Wastell, Stu Bulbrooke, Henry Porter) nished in 3rd place. All Players Fawley RFC Seniors side rst Pre-season xture saw them hosting local friends Marchwood Dolphins. Always a physical xture, the Dolphins looked sharp coming o the back of a busy 7’s and 10’s schedule. With a fantastic turnout on the side-lines and the new coaching team giving their nal instructions Fawley sprang into action taking the lead with a try from Edward Smith. A er some periods of incredibly physical play and some owing rugby from both sides the Dolphins equalised before Fraser Cockeram went over for Fawley. With the extra points added by Rob omas and the clock ticking down it was getting tense towards the end of the game. en a fantastic play by the Dolphins of the back of a scrum with some silky hands saw them go over in the corner. Fawley were unable to regain the lead with the game ending 15-17 to the Dolphins. A fantastic game by 2 skillful and physical sides. A great warm up for Fawley and although the result did not go their way, Rugby was the real winner. ey are looking forward to their next xture against Christchurch and the season starting in earnest. If you want to nd out more check out the website: www.fawleyrfc.com or email: enquiries@fawleyrfc.co.uk Return to Play for Fawley RFC Fawley RFC Seniors tackle the Marchwood Dolphins in their first pre-season fixture Lottie Sefton Trophy The weather was generally ne on Tuesday 17th August for the 36 New Forest Seniors competing for the Lottie Se on Trophy, a stableford competition o the white tees, although a short shower managed to catch a few out with lack of their wet weather gear! In Division 1, Barry Nicholas just pipped Steve Duckett to the post on countback both scoring 38 points, however in Division 2, Winner Terry Jones li s the Lottie Se on Trophy Terry Jones’ 41 points won him the Trophy, 1 point ahead of Ross Matthews . Results - Division 1: 1st Barry Nicholas 38 pts, 2nd Steve Duckett 38 pts, 3rd James Worsley 36 pts; Division 2: 1st Terry Jones 41 pts, 2nd Ross Matthews 40 pts, 3rd Lionel Burns 38 pts. NEW FOREST RALLY Tuesday 24th August was a gloriously sunny day. Co ee and bacon baps welcomed 76 competitors representing 9 clubs local and from further a eld, to the annual Seniors Rally at New Forest Golf Club. Organisation was as impeccable as ever overseen by New Forest’s Alan Clark. At 09:30 the rst groups started o from 11 tees in a shotgun start and by 09:45 all 19 groups were well on their way around the course. e New Forest Rally is a highly popular annual competition played by invited teams from other clubs. Teams of 4 are split up into di erent playing groups so that they have no idea how their team mates are doing. At the end, each team’s stableford scores are added together and the team with the highest aggregate score wins the George Gale trophy. Prizes this year were awarded as follows: Nearest the line on 17th – Ivor Canton from Paultons GC Nearest the pin on 2nd – Malcolm Evans from Highcli e 3rd – Bramshott Hill team ‘B’ – 127 points, 4th – Southampton – 126 points, 5th – Southwick Park team ‘B’ – 122 points . Castle GC. Nearest the pin on 11th – Cliff Hyde from Southwick Park GC. Best individual score – David Smithson from Highcliffe Castle GC with an impressive 44 points. Team prizes: 1st – Bramshott Hill team ‘A’ – 143 points, 2nd – Highcliffe Castle team ‘B’ – 132 points, The winning team from Bramshott Hill (left to right) Kevin Rothwell, Brian Lewis, Rob Hallett and Johnny Hooper Sunday Morning 5-a-side Football at Romsey School e group has a wide range of ages from 27 to 63 years old, fathers and sons. In the 29 years they’ve been running they’ve never turned anyone away so they quite o en don’t have balanced teams which whilst not ideal does not detract from the fun and keeping t. In their group they have a handy man, builder, graphic designer, project manager, ecologist and someone working in media infrastructure. Here are some of the comments from their players on what playing means to them: “Sunday morning football means a chance to both relax and stay fit with the company of a real nice bunch of guys” “Exercise at the right pace, bit of competition and gets me out of bed” “It never fails to impress me the quality of footy that is played, both high quality and fast” “This is a fantastic opportunity to keep fit and play football not having to worry about how good or bad you are at kicking a ball. It’s an open opportunity for everyone regardless of age and ability and good fun at the same time!” “Having a young family I find it difficult to get time for myself, so playing early Sunday morning works for me as it gives me the rest of the day to spend with them.
