A er 18 months of COVID-19 restrictions it was great for them they were able to get together, catch up with friends, and enjoy the hospitality provided by Sue, Jim and the team at Exbury. Everyone enjoyed the delicious Burgers and Hot-Dogs. is was followed by ice- creams that went down a treat. It was a perfect a ernoon with a lot of fun enjoyed by all, and the sun shone too! During the a ernoon, Kaj Warming presented a cheque for £350 to the club chairman, Nigel Cooper, from the sale of all the Hythe Ukulele Groups equipment. Everyone at The Waterside Gateway Club would like to say a BIG ‘ ankyou’ to all at Exbury Club for an amazing BBQ, and to the Hythe Ukulele Group for their generosity. Camera Club Back in View Viewfinders of Romsey Camera Club held a ‘Welcome Back’ evening for its rst meeting in eighteen months. Having met online for so long, members were pleased to see familiar faces and a few new ones. ere was a display of printed images taken during lockdown and refreshments to enjoy while viewing them. e highlight of the evening was the presentation of trophies and certi cates awarded for online competitions during the last year. For more information, visit the club’s website: www. viewfinderscameraclub.org.uk or e-mail : secretary@view nderscc.org.uk Trophy winners left to right: Gerald Ponting (Nature), Lynn Lambeth (Panel), Malcolm Richardson (Digital Image of the Year – advanced category), John Allen (Les Fredericks Trophy and Digital Image of the Year – primary category) and Terry Jamieson (Landscape) HPHA COMPLETE PROTECTION WORK ON HYTHE PIER WAITING ROOM Hythe Pier Heritage Association (HPHA) have recently completed repairs and protection work to the waiting room at the seaward end of Hythe Pier which had had to be closed owing to safety issues. e work involved removing and replacing roof fastenings, “ ash-banding” over the new fastenings and removing rotting oorboard in the area of a roof leak. e work was completed in time to allow an art exhibition by local artists Debra Campbell and Jill Gower as part of an Open Studios project. Further protection work involving upli ing and installing replacement oor boards in the south building was also carried out. A beautiful new canvas picture has been produced in aid of the Hythe Pier Heritage Association to celebrate the pier’s recently received Grade II status. e metre long print ‘A New Dawn for Hythe Pier and Train’ by local artist David Whiteside portrays the iconic pier and train at sunset. Local Photographer Bob Joughin produced a high quality print from the original painting and Hythe photographic kindly manufactured beautifully mounted copies, at their own expense, in aid of the good cause. Kay & Stephen Clark at Hythe Post O ce are selling the prints for £63 with over 40% of all sales going to the charity. So, with Christmas coming up, this might just be the perfect gi for someone special.
