Built in the rst century CE with its decoration not completed until the third century, this ceiling captures some of the last images of the Egyptian view of the heavens. Now being cleaned, these images are slowly revealing the glory of the Egyptian view of the path of the sun and the journey of the moon. is lecture unpacks the rich imagery and mythology of the Egyptian view of the sun and the moon. Bernadette Brady holds a PhD in Anthropology (2012), MA in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology (2005) and a Certi cate in Egyptology from Manchester University (2020). She is currently a lecturer on the online Master of Arts in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology for the Sophia Centre for the Study of Cosmology in Culture at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, UK. Bernadette was the Course Director for the 2019 Bloomsbury Summer School in Luxor on Egyptian Cultural Astronomy and has lectured widely on this subject. e Society meets from 1.30pm for a 2pm start, at the Oasis Academy, Lordshill, in a comfortable, modern and welcoming environment, with disabled access and ample on-site parking. A er a long absence because of the pandemic, the orchestra is back again playing great music! eir next concert will be in Hythe at Cornerstone, Hythe United Reformed Church on Saturday 23rd October at 7pm , when they will be giving a delightful concert of “Autumn Light Classics”. is promises to be an enchanting musical evening, with many pieces that will be familiar to listeners, including Copland’s ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’, Beethoven’s ‘Coriolan Overture’, Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake (No.1 Scene)’, Gershwin’s ‘An American in Paris’ and Holst’s ‘St Paul’s Suite’. Perhaps less familiar but also delightful pieces include Kitcherside’s ‘Lymington Quay’, Anderson’s ‘Jazz Pizzicato’, Albeniz’s ‘Tango, Coates’ ‘Knightbridge March’, Binge’s ‘Trade Winds’ and Bartok’s ‘Romanian Folk Dances’. A concert not to be missed!! Proceeds from the concert will go to the Orchestra funds and the Cornerstone Outreach Fund, supporting mission and outreach locally, in the UK and overseas. ere will also be short presentation by the Asbestos Disease Support charity (HASAG) with a retiring collection in aid of their work supporting people with asbestos related illnesses.
