What should be a wonderful experience can o en turn into heartache if you acquire a puppy from the wrong person. ere are many unscrupulous people pro teering from these amazing animals whose only intention is to make money; they do not care about animal welfare or what happens to the dogs. We see all too o en the consequences of new owners not doing their research, when later down the line when the puppy enters adolescence or adulthood and becomes fearful, aggressive, su ers from separation anxiety etc., to name just a few big issues you can end up having. One new owner I spoke to this week was swindled out of £700 for her puppy who she brought on-line from a complete stranger. e poor puppy was drugged and so dehydrated when she collected him, the poor puppy had to go straight to the vets for treatment. We see and hear horror stories like this all the time. e Kennel Club estimates that 1 in 5 puppies bought online die. If you have not yet got your puppy, it is really important them themselves. It was intended Lucy’s Law would deter people from purchasing puppies and kittens on-line. If you are looking to buy or adopt a puppy under 6 months old, you must deal directly with the breeder or rehoming centre and not a third party commercial dealer. Join Ranger Julie from Bird Aware Solent on a walk around Lepe Country Park. You will discover the o en hidden world of overwintering wader’s ducks & geese who must not only survive winter here, but ensure they stock up on enough food to complete long migrations back to northern breeding grounds. is walk is intended for anyone who loves spending time on the coast. You do not need to know anything at all about birds. Children welcome although the programme is designed for adults. Well behaved dogs on lead welcome. Binoculars will be provided. No booking required, but the event does have limited spaces. Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours of a leisurely walk. Ranger Julie from Bird Aware Solent will also be inviting you to join her in the bird hide. See amazing marsh specialist birds up close through a spotting scope camera or borrow a pairs of binoculars. Learn about what the birds get up to in the winter. is is a great activity for kids, especially on a rainy day! All ages welcome. Wednesday 13th October – Meet outside the Lookout at 10am for the walk and then Julie will be in the bird hide from 12pm for an hour. Saturday 13th November - Meet outside the Lookout at 11am for the walk and then Julie will be in the bird hide from 1pm for an hour. Sunday 12th December - Meet outside the Lookout at 10.30am for the walk and then Julie will be in the bird hide from 12.30pm for an hour. Parking charges apply Bird Aware Solent at Lepe Country Park to be aware of Lucy’s Law which came into force on the 6th April 2020. Lucy, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was rescued from a puppy farmwhere she was subjected to appalling conditions. e law now requires: • Animals can only be sold from the home where they were born. • ey must be reared in a safe environment which meets all of their welfare needs. • Until they are 8 weeks old, they must be kept with their mother until they are old enough to leave the litter, not before. • It is illegal for puppy and kitten commercial dealers to sell these animals unless they have bred and reared An Illustrated Talk on Furzey Gardens New Forest and Waterside U3A have started their twice monthly meetings in St Andrew’s Church Hall, a er a very successful opening meeting on 31st August. e next meeting is on Tuesday 19th October at 2pm and the talk will be given by support members of Furzey Gardens explaining the history and developments of the garden. Followed on Tuesday 2nd November for their AGM followed by an update talk on e Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. A er each speaker they have tea and biscuits and usually the meeting ends at approximately 3.30pm. New Forest and Waterside have many interest group such as gardening, discussion, history skittles and much more. ey usually organise a luncheon once a month and a holiday once a year. MAKE A BUTTONHOLE OR CHRISTMAS WREATH The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. Langley WI’s next meeting will be on Tuesday 19th October with Sandra’s Florists for Make a buttonhole or Christmas wreath. Followed on Tuesday 16th November for a Social Event with American Supper, Quiz & Dingbats. LangleyWI meet every third Tuesday at St Francis Church Hall, West Common, SO45 1XU at 7.30pm.
