Inspirational Exhibition of Woodcarvings e exhibition at St Andrew’s, the rst time it has taken place in Dibden Purlieu, was well attended, even though it was limited to two hours in the a ernoon. Visitors crowded around the demonstration of pyrography and marvelled at the huge array of carvings. Some made their own Christmas bambi’s and some took advantage of the sales table, picking up presents and souvenirs from jewellery to birds, boots to walking sticks. In the foyer a copy of the Millennium mosaic attracted much attention – the original currently sits on the wall of the activity room in Hythe library and is composed of images that re ect the history and wildlife of Hythe. e vote for favourite piece caused much amusement. Some visitors felt it impossible to choose. For those that did, the carving with most votes was the mobius strip by Pippa Smith – a truly technical piece of woodcarving. Others that attracted the bulk of the A truly technical piece of woodcarving by Pippa Smith votes were the lion, ying mallard, turtle, a satchel and a violin with music. e club is now up and running again at Applemore College and has welcomed more new members this term. Allan Fairhead With the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions easing, we have been able to get back to some sort of normality, and new members have joined us. Very good to see how the social side is enjoyed by everyone. With the rst carriage and engine unit of the train on the pier repaired and restored and back on track, the members of the Shed have deconstructed the next carriage ready for the chassis to be rebuilt by the engineers in the train workshop. e Shed members have started work to cut new timbers and assemble the framework to get this carriage rebuilt. Lots to do as the centenary of the train is next year, and as much of the train as possible repaired is the aim. e members have also undertaken a project for Lepe Country Park for a display they wanted, a repair to an antique mirror frame, making planters, bat and bird boxes, getting the mural erected at the far end of the pier, restoring an inscription on a plank etc. We entered the ra race and did not nish last, very good result for our rst attempt! We also enjoyed a bar-b-que with our other halves on our carpark overlooking the water. Our members acted as marshals for this year’s Rock the Pier music festival, to ensure crowd safety and tra c duty. e HPHA had a co ee morning hosted by its chairman for their members at the Shed, where he updated them on the restoration progress, and they were able to inspect the Shed to see what we do. Still lots to do, but if anyone has something for repair or wanted, call in to see us on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, and let us see if we can help. If you have been touched by cancer and would like to join their friendly group the Totton choir will be restarting sessions at Hounsdown Hall on Wednesday afternoons .
