On Saturday 25th September a group of Hythe & Waterside Rotarians and their families, along with 3 members of the public, went along to Lepe to take part in the Marine Conservation Society’s annual Great British Beach Clean. is has become a twice a year event for Hythe Rotary and, as always, a record was kept of all items found on the beach which will be submitted Those taking part in the Beach Clean for the national statistics. is included various sized pieces of plastic, paper, bio-beads, rope and shing line. e drizzle held o until the group were gathered outside the cafe for co ee and bacon rolls! Solent Wives Celebrate Back in September 2021, a small group of around 16 ladies were, at last, able to celebrate y plus years of friendship and fund raising together. e planned event in 2020 had to be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions so they were very pleased to share some zz and cake in a member’s lovely garden, with each receiving a beautifully engraved commemorative glass to celebrate their time together. ere was such a lot to catch up on and hopefully they can move forward once again with their monthly meetings. Previously e Solent Wives have raised funds for local worthy causes and hope to continue for many years to come! Award for Solent Rescue Cllr Alexs McEvoy was delighted to have nominated Solent Rescue Independent Lifeboat for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. Even more pleased to have attended the presentation of the Award by Nigel Atkinson, the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire on 24th September at Lepe Country Park. e Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK. It is the equivalent of an MBE and is awarded for life. is year it was awarded to only 241 organisations across the whole of the UK and of particular signi cance it was awarded in Solent Rescue’s Golden Jubilee year. A variety of stalls to browse including; books, toys, owers and cakes along with a ra e, tombola and refreshments. All proceeds go to the church restoration funds.
