Almost 100 representatives from local businesses and organisations enjoyed a drinks reception and canapés before being treated to performances by singer, Martin Murphy, and magician, Paul Newton. Wessex Cancer Trust’s Head of Fundraising, Sally Hillyear, says it was a very special evening: “We’re proud to be a charity that provides free and local support to anyone living with cancer, so it was wonderful to be able to come together with guests from our local community to say a huge thank you for all the support they’ve given us throughout the past 40 years. We’re incredibly grateful to Kuti Miah and his team for putting on such a great evening, as well as DEOS and Drive Personnel for sponsoring the event.” e Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire and his wife marked the occasion by cutting a 40th birthday cake donated by Donna’s Cakes and Bakes. He said: “Much has changed within our local communities over the past 40 years, but Wessex Cancer Trust has been a constant; providing unwavering support to those who really need it. The past 18 months have been incredibly tough for those living with cancer – and for Wessex Cancer Trust, yet its team of dedicated staff and volunteers has really stepped up to make sure everyone who needs support can continue to access it. It’s therefore poignant that so many people who have been part of this charity’s journey since 1981 could be here tonight and a real testament to how valued it is throughout Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. Congratulations Wessex Cancer Trust and here’s to the next 40 years.” e evening was a highlight in a year of special 40th birthday events designed to celebrate, re ect and give thanks. ese have included a sponsored Solent swim, virtual balloon race and Walk for Hope.
