Despite the greens having just been hollow tined, scores were still highly competitive. In Division 1, Brian Roberts came in with an excellent nett 66; however Charlie Hughes in Division 2 stormed home with Trophy winner Charlie Hughes nett 64 to claim the Sam Mates trophy. Top results: Division 1: 1st Brian Roberts nett 66, 2nd Mike Fawcett nett 67, 3rd Steve Duckett nett 68; Division 2: 1st Charlie Hughes nett 64, 2nd Colin Firth nett 66, 3rd Rob Young nett 68. October Monthly Medal On Tuesday 5th October, in weather ranging from warm brilliant sunshine, to colder brooding clouds with strong gusts of wind, 31 New Forest Golf Club Seniors braved the elements for October’s medal competition. In Division 1, Pete Ayers was just pipped at the post on countback by one stroke by Mike Broom, both having scored nett 66. In Division 2 Terry Jones emerged triumphant on nett 66, one stroke ahead of Richard Hickman. Top results: Division 1: 1st Mike Broom nett 66, 2nd Pete Ayers nett 66, 3 rd Brian Roberts nett 68. Left to right: Medal winners Mike Broom and Terry Jones Fawley RFC Youngsters Chosen for Elite Training Programme Fawley RFC is delighted to announce that players from their Junior Training squads have been selected to train with the London Irish Academy. e Academy selects players from Berkshire, Hampshire and Middlesex for their Developing Player Programme (DPP). Several boys were put forward by their coaches as having potential to further their rugby skills and a er an intensive trial, 5 players were selected by London Irish a er demonstrating they had the talent for the programme. Created in 2013, the DPP aims to engage with young rugby players at an early stage in their sporting lives, encouraging them to develop the skills essential to a career in rugby, whether they end up playing professionally or to continue enjoying participating in clubs at an amateur level. As part of the DPP, the boys will be supported by professionals to nurture their skill development, game understanding and athleticism in weekly training sessions. Fawley RFC is justi ably proud of all boys who were entered for trials and will follow their development with interest and encouragement. e whole club o ers congratulations to Logan Friend, Sonna Rawasa, Cieran Howse, Max Belson and Wyatt Davis who join fellow Fawley RFC players Niko Tawake, Jake Clark and Monty Richmond who already train with London Irish alongside their Fawley commitments. Fawley RFC players chosen for London Irish Academy RATS Return to the Pool Romsey and Totton Swimmers (RATS) returned to competition last weekend at the Bournemouth Back to Competition Open Meet. 13 swimmers competed across 59 events the pick of which had to be the boys 100m freestyle where Henry Barker was the fastest 10-year-old, Lucas Perks the fastest 11-year-old and Ed Greenaway the fastest 12-year-old all achieving personal best times. Matt Davies swimming in the same race, was placed third in the multi disability event also in a best time. Henry added to his medal haul with gold medals in 200m Freestyle, with and 11 second pb, and 100m Backstroke as well as silver medals in a further 5 events. Lucas also added to his medal haul with gold medal in 100m Individual Medley, 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. Ed achieved 1st place on 100m backstroke and 2nd on 200m freestyle, 50 Backstroke and 50 Freestyle. Meanwhile Matt was placed 1st in 100m Breaststroke and 2nd in 50m Freestyle. Other medal winning performances came from Imani Payne who gained 1st place in Girls 12 years 50 M Breaststroke. Amelia Lambert gained 4 silvers and one bronze in the 13-year-old girl’s events, she was joined by Anna Rangecroft who achieved 2 silvers in the same age group, with Jay Turner swimming to a silver medal in the 17 years old 100m Breaststroke and Eleanor Oakley who gained a bronze medal in the 100m Butter y for 15-year-old-girls. With Bethan Heard swimming personal bests and Issy Slade, Natalya Pemberton- Teer and Freya Long all making their debuts and swimmers faster than they ever had before Romsey and Totton had a superb meet. Coach Steve Harrison was delighted with the results commenting: “The swimmers had all been working hard since returning from the COVID-19 lockdowns, so I knew we would do well but this is exceptional and a very well done to all swimmers.” If you are interested in nding out more about Romsey and Totton’s swimming and learn to swim programme go to the club website: www.ratswim.com Bramshott Hill Seniors Results irty ve Senior players took to the Dibden Golf course on Monday 20th September to compete in a Stableford quali er. e weather was still being reasonable and the Seniors spirits were high. A good competition took place with some very decent scores being returned. e results were as follows: Division 1: 1st Robert Hallet 43 points, 2nd Johnny Hooper 39 points, 3rd Ray Dunkason 36 points; Division 2: 1st Eddie Moseley 38 points, 2nd Barry Walker 38 points, 3rd David Kellawy 36 points. On Wednesday 22nd September, 10 excited Bramshott Hill Senior golfers took up their places on the battle eld at Dibden, to try to maintain and improve their unbeaten run of 5 games at home by defeating the skilful Seniors from Andover golf club, and they are delighted to that they were successful in extending the run of wins to 6 games, especially as this game was a whitewash win of 5 games to nil, making this this the third whitewash victory in a row! e day was nished o by a scrumptious meal, with much jolli cation and qua ng of ale and other refreshments. Monday 27th September saw twenty ve Senior players turn out in some very wet conditions, however within twenty minutes of the start the sun came out and conditions continued to improve. For those players that braved the weather a very good morning was enjoyed with again some decent results. e results were: Division 1: 1st Johnny Cooper 40 points, 2nd Peter Mortimer 38 points, 3rd Barry Walker 37 points; Division 2: 1st David Robinson 37 points, 2nd Richard Short 35 points (a er countback), 3rd Brian Cox 35 points. Bramshott Hill Winning Ways Continue at Wellow Bramshott Hill Ladies continue their winning streak. Not content with bringing home the trophy from the New Forest Rally they completed the double by also winning the rally hosted by Wellow Golf Club. e ever popular Daily Mail Foresomes took place on the 23rd September with competitors vying for a place in this national competition. Many congratulations go to Diana Ryan and Jan Merrett who had a convincing win scoring a Nett 67. ey beat Liz Christian and Krystina Cotterell into The winning team in the Wellow Rally New Forest Rally winners second place (Nett 70) third place went to Hilary Bell and Jane Physick. e 30th September saw the monthly medal taking place and some great scores showed that the gol ng season is still in full swing: Division 1 Winner: L Dunkason Nett 67, 2nd J Weatherdon 70, 3rd S Lewis 74; Division 2 Winner: J Physick Nett 67, 2nd H Troupe 69, 3rd P Colmer 73; Division 3 Winner: V Boot Nett 73, 2nd S Gibson 74, 3rd G Gordon 76.
