Hythe Active Strength, Balance and Flexibility Exercise Groups at Cornerstone. Older adults lose muscle strength at the rate of about 1% per year, and their sense of balance also seems to decrease, leading to an increased chance of falling. Approximately 30% of people over 65 years of age living in the community fall each year. However, the good news is that exercise programmes are highly e ective in older adults in signi cantly reducing the risk. It is possible to increase muscle strength by 30 to 50% by doing strength exercises, and the chances of falls can be also reduced by 30 to 50% using simple balance exercises. In order to help you live an active lifestyle as you age, they are starting two exercise groups at Cornerstone Hythe URC. You are welcome to attend one or both groups, which will be open to all in the community. eir instructor is well quali ed in delivering exercise programs for older adults and co ee will be available a er each session. Seated exercise: Mondays 10amto 11am until 13th December ; Strength, balance and exibility exercise: Thursdays 10am to 11am until 16th December . It’s also helpful if you can agree exchange and completion dates to aim for right from the start, to give everyone a timescale to aim for.
