SPORT IN THE HERALD Mark Hooper Memorial Trophy Bramshott Hill Seniors Results Monday 11th October saw 36 Seniors once again take to the Dibden course for another Stableford Quali er. e weather was glorious with some very warm late Summer sunshine. e course is still in gret condition and a good competition was anticipated by all. e players did themselves proud with some very good scores returned. e results were: Division 1: 1st Bill Merrett , 2nd Brian Denham, 3rd Brian Lewis ; Division 2: 1st David Robinson , 2nd John Gordon , 3rd Terry Wiseman . Monday 18thOctober saw 31 Bramshott Hill Seniors take to the course for a Stableford Qualifier competition. Although the weather was not looking too inviting, this did not dampen the spirits of hardy few who faced the challenge. e weather gremlins smiled on them and they managed to complete the competition in mostly dry conditions. Some good results were returned and the results were as follow: Division 1: 1st Ian Blandford , 2nd Brian Lewis , 3rd Stuart Bulbrooke ; Division 2: 1st Brian Cox , 2nd Alan Rogers , 3rd Dave Kellaway . eir inter club matches are now completed and they enter their winter playing routine. ey will continue to play Quali ers as long as the weather and course conditions allow. e Seniors AGM was held on 1st November and this will be followed on 20th December with their Seniors Christmas Dinner and Trophy presentations. On this subject the cases of COVID-19 are rapidly rising and if they want to celebrate Christmas with friends and family, they need to stay very vigilant. It is not really inconvenient to wear masks in populated areas and practice some distance awareness. ey have come a long way since the start of this pandemic, let’s not throw all of the good work away now. Please take care and enjoy the freedoms they have earned. Monday 25th October started very overcast and wet as 36 Senior golfers from Bramshott Hill set out on another Stableford quali er. Despite the weather the course condition was fairly good and an enjoyable match was anticipated. In a very short time, the rain stopped and the sun came out, to every one’s relief. However, the weather gremlins were only teasing them and towards the end of the match the heavens opened and monsoon like showers caused many to swi ly dig around in their bags for the obligatory wet weather clothing. Would they allow the weather to interrupt their match? Not a chance and all 36 players completed the course. Despite the rain some very good scores were once again recorded, the results were as follows: Division 1: 1st Johnny Hooper , 2nd Paul Wastell , 3rd Kevin Rothwell ; Division 2: 1st Eddie Ford , 2nd John Annetts , 3rd Terry (Terence) Wiseman . Played on ursday 21st October, in memory of a much loved former member of the New Forest Golf Club Seniors Section, this pair of trophies has a unique twist. A stableford competition o the yellow tees, all competitors are required to use their putters for their tee shots on the 130 yard 13th hole. is is because Mark was renowned for doing just this. e weather was quite cold and o en very breezy despite the Peter Harvey (centre) representing Mark Hooper’s family along with trophy winners Brian Roberts (left) and Mervyn Harding (right) appearance of the sun, reminding the 46 New Forest Seniors members competing that winter is only just around the corner. Despite somewhat wet conditions underfoot and water in many bunkers, Brian Roberts avoided all the hazards to come in with an excellent 43 points winning the Mark Hooper Trophy, with Jim Worsley just one point behind on 42. Terry Jones came rst in Division 2 with 39 points, 2 ahead of Trevor Davies and Rob Young. Mervyn Harding won the nearest the pin trophy by getting his tee putt onto the green about 12 feet from the ag. Top results - Division 1: 1st Brian Roberts 43 points, 2nd Jim Worsley 42 points, 3rd Steve Duckett 40 points. Division 2: 1st Terry Jones 39 points, 2nd Trevor Davies 37 points (back 9 24), 3rd Rob Young 37 points (back 9 20). BRAMSHOTT HILL LADY GOLFERS HUNGRY FOR SUCCESS It had been a long wait for the ever popular Dinner Cup evening. An evening for celebrating the years triumphs and cementing friendships. e wine owed and the food enjoyed and a er the many cups and trophies were handed out the draw was made for the following days golf. An early tee time on a misty morning is always a good time to ponder whether that extra glass of wine the previous evening was a good idea, but here was no problem for Lynn Compton & Ursula Symes who won the Dinner Cup with a great score of 38 points. In 2nd place were Hilary Hanmore & Sandra Gibson (37points) who narrowly beat Jo Renyard & Wendy Davies into 3rd place (36 points) e results of the years many competition were revealed and presentations made. Barr Foursomes knockout competition was won by L Dunkason and H Troupe with the runners up being C Caswell and D Campbel l. e Vets Cup was won by L Dunkason with C Caswell as runner up. e Rose Bowl Trophy was won by M Shepherd with S Lewis as runner up and the Victoria Cafasso trophy was awarded to D Campbell with J Wiseman in second place. e Anniversary Trophy for best gross score went to M Shepherd with J Weatherdon in second place. e best net score went to P Colmer and in second place came L Compton . Winners of the Dinner Cup Ursula Symes (left) and Lynn Compton SEASON CONTINUES IN STYLE FOR FAWLEY RFC A er a di cult 2020/21 season for local rugby club Fawley RFC, Juniors and Seniors alike were ready to get back to normal when restrictions li ed. Since the 2021/22 season started in September league games have started, Seniors have been enjoying xtures and the walking rugby section are back in action. e Junior section has seen more children than ever before registering to play and are continuing to attract new players. All children are welcomed at the club from school years R-11 with progression into the seniors team and onwards to walking rugby ensuring a lifetime of club membership for rugby lovers. is season sees 5 new junior players being accepted into the prestigious London Irish Developing Player Programme and the Seniors are at the top end of their league at time of writing. Behind the scenes, a committed team of volunteers ensure that all health and safety protocols are adhered to and that coaches and team managers have all the training they need. is year, focus moves to the building of a permanent clubhouse at Gang Warily a er planning permission was successfully completed. Fundraising is well under way and plans have been drawn up. e club seeks to appoint builders to get underway once funds are raised and they are always on the lookout for support - whether that is in the form of time or nancial assistance. As with any grassroots club, volunteers are always welcome, from coaching to rst aid, refereeing and even cooking the bacon sandwiches!
