With the support of three local solicitors, Heppenstalls, CGM and Footner & Ewing, the event was very well received with people coming forward to consider and write this really important document. Having a Will in place is essential and the only way you can really be sure that your wishes are followed a er your death. For almost 30 years now, Oakhaven has been providing free hospice care for over 300 patients and their loved ones in the New Forest, Waterside and Totton communities at any point in time. Gi s in Wills are particularly important to Oakhaven as they allow the charity to care for 1 in 4 patients. Local man, Glyn Maher, who passed away recently, lost his wife 9 years ago and following her passing joined the Widowed Friendship Club (WFC), the independent self-help group of widows and widowers who support Oakhaven; and in the nal stages of his own life, was cared for by Oakhaven’s domiciliary care company, Oakhaven Care. Glyn so appreciated the support he received from the WFC and Oakhaven over the years, he decided to leave a gi in his will to the charity. His donation through this legacy means that others will also bene t from the support that meant so much to Glyn, and goes towards ensuring that Oakhaven can continue its work to support and care for others in the community for generations to come. If you have already made a Will, it is easy to add a codicil (or extra section) to explain that you would like to make an additional gi , but if you would like more information on how to make a gi in your Will and how that gi could help Oakhaven, please call the Hospice on: 01590 677773 or visit: www. oakhavenhospice.co.uk/legacy Glyn Maher “Lift off” after Lockdown - 100 years not out!
