Putting forward 11 players, Kati Varadi, Sophie/Sam/ Shre Chatterjee, Julie Whiteside, Amelia Blunt, Leanne Browning-Martin, Paris Wateridge, Jess/ Isla Perfect and Gini Brown, they successfully came 8th out of 38 clubs. Master Graves says: “We’ve been working hard twice a week and the progress was clear to see. The guys used the lockdown to good effect as the Zoom sessions allowed us to hold many individual sessions which has helped them all to reach higher levels.” Waterside Taekwondo Club have also just returned from another successful event in the sparring national championships which were held at the Copper Box Arena in London. Overall they had 12 fighters and came 7th out of 65 clubs. e most pleasing part was getting 6 national champions plus also gaining 3 bronze medals. A er re ecting on this amazing performance from their players they realised that overall they won 19 matches and lost only 6. ose who took part were; Ellie Allen, Master Sean Neill, Poppy/Lily Kingsley, Klara Boccolini, Kati Varadi, Aimee Kim, James Craven-Archer, Tilly Hiscock, Elliott Stokes, Jake Pachansky and Ellie Adams. Master Graves explains: “ This was a very long weekend and I was delighted with the overall outcome. To come 7th against the largest fighting clubs in the country just shows we are doing the right things in class and we can only get better from here. So many amazing performances on the day and Poomsae squad (from left to right) Shre Chatterjee, Sophie Chatterjee, Julie Whiteside, Sam Chatterjee, Leanne Browning-Martin, Gini Brown, Jess Perfect, Katika Varadi, Isla Perfect, Amelia Blunt, Paris Wateridge, Master Colin Graves the whole team supported each other through the weekend. Going forward we have now got five of our students that have been selected to take part in fighting chance being held in Manchester against the best fighters to have the opportunity to be selected for Great Britain.” Master Graves continues: “We had Lily Kingsley , who is part of the GB cadet squad, taking part in the French Open. She managed a bronze medal in a category of 17 people and only lost to the European ranked no 1 by 16-7. Lily has another year in cadets and will be looking to become the ranked number 1 next year.” Classes are held on a weekly basis in Hardley, Dibden, Redbridge, Totton and the Netley area. It was originally the vision of Jan Hayter, the current co-ordinator. e community have been wonderful over the years supporting the Foodbank with donations of food and nance. For the last 20 months since the COVID-19 pandemic began the demand has been even greater, but the community rose to the challenge and have supported the foodbank over and above what they could have ever imagined. ey have been blessed have enough to give to those who need it. A huge thank you to everyone – they would never have done it without you. ey have over 40 volunteers who give their time to help in many ways, collecting food from their collection points, working in the warehouse, and preparing and delivering food to those who need it, plus others doing administrative tasks behind the scenes. Now Waterside Foodbank is ready for its next chapter. As the work has grown so much they are now in the position to recruit a Foodbank Project Manager.
