Every year Hythe & Waterside Rotary play a part in the Rotary Shoebox Scheme, collecting shoeboxes lled with suitable gi s for disadvantaged children abroad. Grateful thanks go to members of the local community who donated boxes, which will be distributed in Albania, Montenegro, Moldova and Romania. Hythe & Waterside Rotary collected just under 200 shoeboxes this year and the overall collected by the Rotary District regional depot was just over 18,000 which is very pleasing indeed. eir boxes included donations from Waterside Primary School, Hythe Primary School and residents at Homeborough House. ey realise how challenging it has been again this year especially as schools continue to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. is caused many to miss the deadline for donating, but they are hopeful that numbers will increase again next year. Supported by Meadens of Hythe (use of a van) and Elliotts Hire of Marchwood (storage facilities) Hythe & Waterside Rotary were able to deliver the local boxes safely to the regional collection depot at Hurn where they will be prepared for transit. is project has been running for over 25 years now and continues to spread a little happiness to children in Eastern Europe. Boxes arriving at the Hurn depot On 19th October the club celebrated the 50th Anniversary of being chartered. e Charter lunch took place at the Beaulieu Inn and was attended by over 50 people including past members, widowers of past members, Mary their District President, members of the District Executive and Lymington Inner Wheel. President Susan gave an excellent address. e guest speaker was Sam Frazer who entertained them with an insight into her life as a weather presenter.
