Twice a month we set up a station on Southampton high street for individuals; providing advice, support, a hot meal, drinks, lunch items, clothing, and bedding to those needing a helping hand. I’ve been lucky enough to build up some trusting relationships with several rough sleepers during those scheduled visits and I try to visit as and whenever I can. e one thing everyone has in common is the need to be heard. ey need someone to sit with them on the pavement and listen. I always re ect hard a er those conversations, wishing I could do more. However individuals have ended up being homeless, nobody choses that life and everyone deserves access a nancial contribution; it could be by donating blankets, bedding, warm coats, hats, scarves, gloves, toiletries, ladies sanitary items – on the long cold winter nights the comfort of a warm coat and a chat over a hot drink with a volunteer that cares can make the world of di erence. We rely solely on donations and put simply; we literally couldn’t do it without the generosity of the public. What we do is so gratefully received; we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who works sel essly to help others. Special thanks to Karen Cole Bailey at Waitrose, Hythe - your ongoing support is incredible and amazing. Even bigger thanks must go out to our amazing volunteers: Maria Langdale, Katie Percy, Steve Worsley, Lynn Worsley, Claire and Rich Hewitt Curl, Carol and Merv Langdale, Danni Hartley, SamMellor, Sarah Whitman, Hannah Gray and Ben Young. If you can spare any of those much needed items or would like to volunteer your time we would love to hear from you. Please drop me an email on: cazlang@gmail.com or visit our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/457729715242159 to the help and support they so desperately need. We are fortunate to have forged strong links with the Hazel Project, a Christian ministry based in Lordswood, who do amazing work with the guys and the street pastors. As you can imagine, for people living on the streets or in temporary accommodation across Southampton, this time of year is particularly difficult. Physically, mentally, and emotionally people need more support than ever, and this is where we need the amazing Waterside community to help as much as they possibly can. We understand this cannot always be with Volunteers going above and beyond to support individuals living on the streets of Southampton I would like to thank all the Waterside community for their generous support of this appeal. Dibden Purlieu have, so far, collected £2,794.37. Marchwood have, so far, collected £760.06. These are outstanding amounts that will help serving and ex-members of the armed forces. Thank you.
