THE CHRISTMAS TREE FAIRY by Dorothy Lockyer I only appear for a short time once a year It’s a time of excitement and mainly good cheer! But most of my life I’m shut away in the dark In a box, in a loft, which is lonely and stark. Deep winter’s come, I’m feeling a stirring within I’m leaving the loft, brought into the light, made trim. In the warmth and glow of the fire, the Spruce tree stands tall Adorned with tinsel and baubles just to enthrall. Now this is the moment I come into my own Sparkling dress, wand in hand, I set the tone As I’m lifted high and set upon the crown, beware Watch those spines of the Spruce upon my derriere! A joyous scene upon which I’m left to gaze Twinkling lights, crackers, the latest gizmo craze Food in abundance, bottles of wine, red and white Chocs, sweets, nuts and raisins, taste buds to delight. I look around the room, there on a shelf barely seen A silhouette depicting a nativity scene The unwrapped gift pushed away to one side The true meaning of Christmas, forgotten, denied. But for the Grace by Jim Dolbear Peace on earth goodwill to men, e time of year is here again. So many smiling happy people, Church bells ringing from the steeple. Families sitting around log res, Sweet carol singing by the choirs. Lets eat, drink and be merry, And kiss under the mistle berry. Holding hands sing Auld Lang Syne, Everyone is having a good time. Raise your glass and give a cheer, Look forward to a Happy New Year. But Mary is sitting all alone, Wrapped in a blanket chilled to the bone. She’s had bread and soup for tea, Another year she will never see. On a park bench sleeps young Bill, Carboard boxes keep out the chill. He’s too old to be in a home, So the streets he has to roam. Heather just in teenage years, Stands in the shadows to hide her tears. Came to the city from her home town, Has no place to put her head down. We are too busy to hear their cry, With blinkered vision we walk by. Why is it that we can’t see, But for the grace of God go we. Happy Christmas by Marlene Parmenter ank goodness it’s nearly Christmas e work up’s been a pain, Ba Humbug has been di cult, It’s started to hurt me brain. “Christmas never used to start Until the middle of December, Now there’s bloomin’ cards in shops From the beginning of September.” Oh now there comes the adverts. Fancy food and expensive toys. All to get your taste buds going And to tempt the girls and boys ey repeat all the Christmas songs, Made from years gone by. Until they rattle in your head, “No more” I hear him cry. “We don’t need no decorations, They just collect the dust. Cluttering up the house” His brain is going to bust. “No, you can’t use blu tac. It will take the paint off the wall And sellotape will do the same, Why put them up at all? What’s wrong with THIS Christmas tree? We’ve had it 20 years or more. It’s so easy to put it up, And there’s no needles on the floor”. Christmas comes but once a year, For some that’s hard to swallow. As when it is all over Bloomin’ Easter is to follow!! I would like to thank my husband for giving me the inspiration for this poem A tiger came to tea, And fancied you and me. We gave him a curry, He le in a hurry. And raised his tail behind a tree. The Tigers Team Time Tale by Jim Dolbear ONE BROKEN HEART by Lee Owers Now is the time to say goodbye I’m trying hard not to cry My heart is broken what can I do All I want, is to be with you at tender kiss near the end Always my lover and my friend Please wait for me; I will be there soon en all the roses will start to bloom.
