The RNLI Great Waterside Raft Race returned in August with spectators lining the shoreline to enjoy the races. TV’s Dan Snow kindly presented the prizes. ey plan for this year’s race to be held on Sunday 28th August , so there’s a date for your diaries! eir nal fundraiser of the year was a pub quiz, held on Tuesday 23rd November at Ebenezers in Hythe. With 11 teams taking part, a respectable £295 was raised. e winning team were the Facebook ‘ Waterside Community Group Admin Team’ . Kind thanks to Mark and his team for once again hosting. e branch wishes to thank all their supporters, whether volunteering, donating or simply attending the various events. Scooping 1st prize at the RNLI fundraising quiz, the Waterside Community Group Admin Team Christmas Tree Recycling Drop-off Points Until Sunday 16th January 2022, real Christmas trees can be dropped off for recycling at selected car parks • Fordingbridge : A338 Slip road car park, SP6 1AN • Lymington : Bath Road car park, SO41 3SE • Lyndhurst : Village Centre car park, SO43 7BE • Milford-on-Sea : Hurst Road East over ow car park (by Sturt Pond), SO41 0PY • New Milton : Crossmead Avenue car park, BH25 6NF • Ringwood : e Furlong long stay car park (follow signs to the designated area), BH24 1AY • Totton : Rumbridge Street car park, SO40 9EA. All decorations must be removed from the tree before taking it to a drop- o point. Accompanied by one of his elves, he travelled to Hythe on the Hythe Scene, waving to passing boats from the wheelhouse. As he stepped out of the train, he was greeted at the pier entrance by excited children, posing for memorable photographs before walking with his elf around the village, giving a cheery wave to all. A er meeting many more children it was back to meet his reindeer and y o to the North Pole to prepare for Christmas. Pictured right: Santa and one of his merry elves arrived in style SINGING SUCCESS A local a cappella quartet proved to be a ‘Fab Four’ when they took top honours in a high class singing competition in Hampshire recently. Cabin Crew, pictured, won the A Cappella Cup at the recent Fareham Music Festival which attracted a range of talented choirs from the south. e foursome learned their close harmony singing skills with barbershop chorus Ocean Harmony and now perform as a quartet, free of charge, at functions in and around the New Forest. Lead singer Dudley Stone, tenor John Dunning, baritone Paul Moulin and bass singer Wayne Culver sang Toy Story favourite ‘I Will Go Sailing’ and a more upbeat ‘I’m Gonna Ride e Chariot’ to impress the judges. Cabin Crew, who took their name from the log cabin they regularly practice in, already have a number of Free Face Shields for Local Groups A er receiving a very large donation of plastic face shields, Hythe & Waterside Rotary would like to pass these on to care homes, day centres, charities or any other worthy causes. “We have a very large supply of these items” says a Hythe & Waterside Rotary spokesperson, “and we really want them to go out to the local community who can put them to good use.” Please let them know if you could use a supply of free face shields by phoning: 023 8181 8187 and they can then arrange delivery. performance dates in their diary for 2022. Dudley said: “Hopefully we are all looking forward to a more Covid-free year which will give us the opportunity to sing for charitable or private events in 2022.
