It was good for them to get together to socialise a er such a di cult time and not being able to meet as a group. An interesting topic of conversation was how many ‘jabs’ they’ve all had. e October meeting was their A.G.M. with a new chairperson and committee elected for 2021-2022. Dates for future events were agreed including rallies and charity auction, more information and dates to follow. At the November meeting their speaker was from the Tools for Self Reliance charity. He gave an enjoyable talk passing around unusual items for them to try and identify. He supplied items for sale including taps, dies, imperial spanners and a vintage foot pump with its Dunlop stamped wooden box. ese items were quickly purchased by members. e club also made a donation to the charity. e December meeting started with a quiz, followed by a ra e and a Christmas bu et. An enjoyable evening rounded o the club’s last 2021 meeting and they are looking forward to 2022. e club is open to anyone with an interest in classic cars. Some members have other classic vehicles such as Riley, Morris, Land Rover and Volkswagen giving the club a broad range of vehicle interests to complement their A30 and A35 models. eir parts company, Austin Motor Spares Service, possibly holds the world’s largest collection of Austin A30/35 spares and sells new, used and reconditioned parts. Robert and Rick Prinn are experts and able to o er comprehensive advice and help. e next meeting for 2022 is scheduled for Thursday 13th January, 7.30pm at Netley Marsh Community Hall, Woodlands Rd SO40 7GH. Austin A35 Racing at Goodwood with a Middlesbrough number plate ANCIENT EGYPT e Southampton Ancient Egypt Society (SAES) next meeting from 1.30pm for a 2pm start will be on Saturday 15th January 2022 for Sarah Gri ths ‘Ptolemaic Girl Power: Arsinoe II, Berenice II and Cleopatra VII.’ e Ptolemaic Dynasty was a nal owering of pharaonic Egypt, but with a distinctive Greek avour – a continuation of Egypt’s religious traditions by a foreign elite with their own Hellenistic culture and traditions. And yet the House of Ptolemy was a family at war with itself, a complex tangle of relationships based on sibling marriages that gave the formidable Ptolemaic queens positions of considerable power and in uence but also contributed to dynastic instability. Sarah Gri ths will paint a vivid picture of the rise and fall of Egypt’s last ancient dynasty, exploring the lives of three of Egypt’s most powerful women set against a backdrop of corruption, intrigue, murder, foreign wars, civil unrest and the series of catastrophic events that led to the decline of the kingdom and its nal annexation by Rome.
