CHRISTMAS SKITTLES Two weeks before Christmas, a fun evening was held by Hythe and Waterside Rotary who invited members of Hythe & District Inner Wheel and e Waterside Network Group to join them in a few games of informal skittles. Grateful thanks go to Hythe Club for allowing the use of their skittle alley and for providing the bu et supper. Local traders donated most of the ra e prizes and a competition was held for the wearer of the best Christmas jumper. Despite being a social event the evening also raised £253 which will be used to support local good causes. Local author and Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award holder, Jodi Longyear is giving back to the community that has supported his rst guide book ‘New Forest 222’ by giving away 5 of his books to local schools within the Herald Community . Inspired by the Queen’s speech on Christmas day Jodi says: “One of the things that really stood out on Christmas Day was the Queen’s ringing endorsement of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Saturday 23rd July as part of the Centenary Celebration marking 100 years of the train operating on Hythe Pier. e Guinness Book of Records lists the train as the world’s “oldest operating pier train”, having been running to and from the Hythe ferry boats at the end of the pier since late July 1922.
