Teenagers often get bad press because of the actions of a few, so in 2022 we want to give a shout out to those awesome young people that go above and beyond in our community. In this issue I would like to introduce you to a young lad I spoke to back in December, our chosen ‘Young Inspirational Person’ who’s making a name for himself - Riley Avery a.k.a The Grass Barber. Sixteen year old Black eld resident Riley knew from a young age that he wanted to start his own business. Like most young people he wanted to make his own money, so he took three paper rounds, working hard and getting up at the crack of dawn everyday whilst keeping up with school work. It was during the Easter Holidays last year that Riley’s Nan asked if he would come and cut her lawn, and in return gave him some ‘pocket money’. Quickly seizing the opportunity Riley talked to his Nan’s neighbours in Black eld and they liked the idea of having someone who purely cut lawns – for many that was the hardest part of gardening. at evening, full of enthusiasm Riley quickly got to work producing yers and business cards and within a month had built up a customer base. Riley credits his brother Harley (22) for coming up with the business name Grass Barbers and cannot thank his parents, Bernice and Craig, enough for all their help, support and guidance. Being only een years old when he started his business Riley needed transportation, so together with his Dad, they adapted a cycle trailer to transport his mower, strimmer and other equipment. Business was booming and regular commuters on the A326 would have seen Riley cycling to and from jobs. A month before his 16th birthday he invested in a new and improved vehicle - e green Tuk Tuk everyone is now so familiar with. Riley o ers grass cutting services in Hythe, Dibden, Holbury, Fawley, Black eld, Langley and Exbury, and will take your grass cuttings away as an additional service if required. A recent addition to his repertoire is a Christmas tree collection service – so if you don’t want the hassle of pine needles in your car next New Year, get in Riley used pure pedal power when he first launched Grass Barbers Riley’s Tuk Tuk is a familiar sight around the Waterside touch, and for as little as £5 he will collect it and safely dispose of it in one of the registered NFDC drop o points. Riley, from all of us here at the Herald we applaud your initiative, drive, and entrepreneurial business acumen… I’m sure you will go far! If you would like to contact Riley for a no obligation quote, please call him on: 07468 412936 or contact him via Facebook by searching Grass Barbers Do you know a Young Inspirational Person that is doing great things in our community?
