Colin Brading presents ‘ ree Feet on ree Legs - Railways of the Isle of Man’. is presentation explores its unique transport systems, it is like opening the lid of a treasure chest - and what jewels there are! Wonderful Victorian steam and electric railways still take passengers to ancient towns, through wooded glens, up to a mountain summit and by dramatic coastal scenery, while the oldest operational horse tramway in the world still plies the promenade in Douglas. Rich though this heritage is, there was once even more, and the presentation will also look at the many other systems that used to exist on this beautiful island. THE 1951 A6 MURDER Hythe Townswomen’s Guild will hold their next meeting on Thursday 10th February for a talk by Paul Stickler titled ‘ e 1951 A6 Murder’. History on Film Hythe and District Historians next meeting is a presentation by Patrick Kempe on Thursday 3rd February titled ‘The making of films of local interest’. Waterside Ladies Probus Club In December the members were entertained by Alan Jones who amused them with his experiences as a Roving Reporter for local BBC Radio. is was followed by a lovely Christmas lunch. eir next meeting will be on Wednesday 9th February . All meeting are held on the second Wednesday of the month at Dibden Golf Club from 10am. Co ee and biscuits are followed by a short business meeting, a speaker and a two course lunch. e meeting ends at approximately 1.30pm. Lions Bookstall Romsey Lions are back holding their regular book stalls in e Cornmarket, Romsey. eir next book sales will be on Saturday 12th February and Saturday 12th March from 9am until 3pm. ey welcome donations of good quality paperbacks for the stall and also gi s for their bric-a-brac section. Donations can be taken along to the stall on the day of the sales or alternatively you can call: 0344 963 2463 to arrange for a collection to be made. Lions are both men and women, and there are no age restrictions to membership other than you must be over 18. ey are approachable people from many walks of life, and they enjoy an active social life. A few hours a month are all it takes to help others less fortunate in the community.
