Join Oakhaven’s Chefs, Hannah and Claire, supported by a team of volunteers, in the kitchen at the Hospice to learn basic skills of preparing vegetables, meat and sh to produce a nutritious meal, learn valuable cooking skills and techniques alongside others who are in the same situation of having to prepare meals for the rst time a er losing a loved one, then everyone sits down together to eat what has been cooked. e Coates Centre o ers support to anyone living across the New Forest, Waterside and Totton areas whose lives have been impacted by illness, along with family and friends, whether they are bereaved, have been diagnosed with or caring for someone with a long term illness. ere’s no need for a referral or be known to Oakhaven. e Coates Centre, open Monday-Friday from 10am until 4pm, o ers a place to meet and share with others who understand, and nd a path to help cope with everyday challenges. Going along is an opportunity to meet others who have experienced loss, to talk and share in a safe environment. e team, led by Dot Croall, will be on hand to listen, and support you, and provide information on useful resources. Prostate cancer a ects 1 in 4 men from Black African, Caribbean, and Black British communities – which is twice as many as the 1 in 8 men it a ects from other communities. Black men are also at risk from a younger age than other men. Let’s Talk About Prostate Cancer will feature a range of experts with personal and clinical experience in this area who will share their knowledge and advice to empower Black men and their families to discuss prostate cancer and provide them with the tools and awareness to access support. e event will cover: • Signs and symptoms • Personal experiences of prostate cancer • e PSA test • Next steps and questions Guest speakers will include Consultant urological surgeon, Professor Frank Chinegwundoh MBE along with representatives from Prostate Cancer UK, Black History Month South and Pompey in the Community. ey would like to invite as many people to join this webinar and learn more about prostate cancer. We are looking forward to this webinar and hope as many people can join us as possible.” Find out more and book your place here: www. cancermat terswessex.nhs .uk/prostate-cancer- campaign Free Online Group for People Living with Arthritis Free online groups are taking place to help people in Southampton and around the South living with arthritis to manage their condition. e next group meeting, organised by UK charity Arthritis Action, will take place on Wednesday 9th March at 2pm, with further meetings planned every six weeks. e online groups are held over Zoom, catering to those who still may not be comfortable socialising in-person with others. The meetings o er a safe and friendly environment for people living with arthritis to speak with each other, learn from one another and share their stories, questions and tips. ere are over 10 million people living with some form of arthritis in the UK, making it the leading cause of pain and disability nationwide.
