A er a family friend sadly received a breast cancer diagnosis Gavlar decided to put his love of Christmas lights to good use and four years ago started raising money for the local Wessex Cancer Support Centre by way of donations from families visiting the displays. Over the last four years both the displays and the donations have grown and they have raised nearly £5,000 for the local charity, with 2021 being the best year yet. Gavlar says: “I’m so pleased our displays bring so much joy to the community. It takes me two weeks to put up the display and I couldn’t do this without the support and time given by my Mum Jeanette, my sister Crystle, James, Kim, Reece and my friends Nikki Pullen and Charlotte. Also a massive thank you to the Christmas Fire Engine for their attendance and support and all the people that kindly donated money and raffle prizes – I couldn’t do it without you!” Maureen Robb, Centre Manager at the Waterside Cancer Support Centre sends her gratitude: “We are thankful to Gavlar once again for lighting up the neighbourhood for us. It’s a fun way to raise money and we are so grateful for his continued support.” Eyeworth Walk also scooped first place in the Hythe & Dibden Parish Council’s ‘Best Decorated House’ competition School Governors Required Beaulieu Village Primary School is looking for committed governors to join the governing body at this small, friendly village school. Every school has a governing body made up of parents, sta and people from the local community, all working together with the Headteacher to set the general direction, strategy, budget and policies that govern the way the school works. Commitment and interest are the key quali cations to being a governor; nance skills or experience in forging community links would be desirable but not essential. As a co-opted governor bringing speci c work/life skills, you will contribute a valuable perspective to strategic management of the school. You will need to be able to give some time to attend meetings (daytime and evening) of which there are 10 per year, read paperwork, visit the school as a governor and undertake appropriate training. Meetings are relaxed and the governors are friendly and welcoming. For more information, please visit their school website: www.beaulieuschool. org.uk or contact the Clerk, Jane Baker on: j.baker@beaulieu.hants.sch.uk for more information – closing date is noon on Monday 28th February .
