v WE’VE BEEN YOUR LOCAL SINCE 1994 v Page 68 • The HERALD • 27th January 2022 SPORT IN THE HERALD Monday 20th December was chilly and windy as thirty-two Bramshott Senior Golfers took to the Dibden course. is was no ordinary Monday though; Festive hats and jumpers were in evidence and even Christmas lights adorned some of the trolleys. e reason for all of this jollity was that only eleven holes were to be played followed by the Seniors Christmas lunch served in the Solent suit at Dibden Golf Course. e results of this shortened game were as follows: Division 1: 1st Mark Eve , 2nd Barry Walker , 3rd Bill Merrett ; Division 2: 1st Eddie Ford , 2nd Chuck Stone , 3rd Gerry Murphy (The order of division two was determined by countback). Following the game some 46 members and guests were served lunch in the Solent Suit at Dibden Golf Club. is consisted of forty- four Senior Golf Club Members, Dibden Golf Club Manager Anthony Richards and Sarah Clarke from the Rosewood School. Some Senior Members declined to attend due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Following lunch, the Senior’s captain, John Gordon, made a presentation of £1,000 to Sarah Clarke from the Rosewood School, this being one of the two charities that the Seniors have supported throughout the past year. Sarah then made a short presentation to explain what her organisation does and the people they help. She also expressed her grateful thanks to the Seniors for their generous support. ey have also supported the Handy Trust over the past year. is is a local charity helping youngsters in the area. Unfortunately, So a Richardson, from e Handy Trust, was unable to attend the lunch due to work commitments. So a has expressed her thanks for the donation of £1,000 made by the Seniors. e presentation of trophies to their competition winners, over the past year, then took place. In all, thirteen trophies were awarded. but will only mention the two major winners; e BHDC Seniors Open winner was Kevin Rothwell with a magni cent 37 points. e BHGC Seniors Champion was Mark Eve with an outstanding score of 169 over thirty-six holes of golf. ey also celebrated the naming of their ‘Bandit of the Year’. is is awarded to the member who has won the most amount of prize money over the past year, this was awarded to John Bailey and the costume of ‘Bandit’ was bravely worn by John. Fawley took the kick o which was regathered straight down the middle. Having worked the ball through the hands, Bognor managed to turn the ball over at the ruck only to be tackled into touch. From the line out Fawley again got the ball out to the backs who passed neatly along the line to Tychicus on the wing to go over for the rst try a er 3 minutes Jake followed up with the conversion. e kick o ended up in touch and from the line out a good break from Monty saw him return the kick all the way to score the second try with 6 minutes on the clock. From the kick o Bognor started to nd their feet and kept Fawley pinned back in their own half. When Fawley did start to move up eld Bognor started to kick for territory only to nd new full back Ollie M in form with some excellent takes at full speed and running the ball back to get Fawley going forward. A er a period where possession changed hands a number of times, which saw some good scrummaging from Fawley with good striking by hooker Cameron and Toby growing in to his role as lock helped Fawley progress back up eld, Fawley recycled the ball well from a ruck feeding Sam T who crashed through and showed good strength to score the third try. Bognor were making Fawley work harder to progress as the half moved on. A high kick from Jake tested the full back who lost the ball in the sun, Tychicus gathered the loose ball evaded the cover to score the fourth Fawley try. Bognor started to exert some pressure making the forwards of Fawley work hard with some strong tackling from Ciaran, Niko and Josh and good rucking from James and Harry. Fawley got their hands on the ball again with new Prop Harley in only his second game making a strong run which was nally stopped by 5 Bognor players but beautifully recycled for Fawley. A er further progress was stopped by Bognor they again were able to build pressure forcing Fawley into conceding a penalty close to their own line from which Bognor managed to drive over and get their rst score. ere was time for one nal try from Fawley to end the rst half with Monty touching down leaving the score 5 - 33 in favour of Fawley. Bognor came out strong in the second half and were awarded a penalty which was kicked to touch. Fawley were caught napping with the throw to the front from which Bognor peeled o and went over in the corner. Fawley hit back quickly with a try of their own with rstly some ni y footwork and then a quick jackal by Anton, a good carry by Sam Tonu then through the hands with Monty going over for his hat trick under the posts. Bognor worked quickly back up eld and from another line out set up a maul which they got over the line for their third try. A er the restart more hard work by the forwards, with Olly W, Gabriel and Harry all putting in a number of tackles and starting to get results with counter rucks. e second half saw Fawley ring the changes with a return for Oscar from his injury picked up in the o season and Sammie refreshing the speed on the wing. Pressure was relieved by Fawley with a good clearance from Logan. Shortly a er, centre Tom who was solid in defence all day, put a kick in to space which got Fawley moving forward, from the back of one of the following rucks y half Jake Clark noticed the space in behind the Bognor line and chipped over, the bounce evaded the Bognor cover and he was able to touch down for the score. From the kick o Fawley were able to collect the ball and cycle through the phases. Josh broke the line, he was tackled approaching the line but his momentum carried him over for the nal try of the game, with Jake kicking his seventh conversion from eight the nal score was 15-54 to Fawley. During the proceedings a ra e was held to raise funds for next years Charity. is was organised and administered by two of their lady members, Jackie Cartwright and Hazel Moseley. A total of £360 was taken and this will be donated to Stuart Bulbrooke’s chosen charity ‘Honeypot’ for 2022. Finally, Stuart Bulbrooke, the Seniors Vice Captain, made a presentation to their Captain, John Gordon. John encountered some very di cult and stressful times over his two year tenure as Captain due to the COVID-19 situation, and the Seniors are grateful for the magni cent job he has done. Bramshott Christmas Lunch Dibden Open Golf Society (DOGS) News & Results 7th December - e ‘DOGS’ played two rounds of golf on the 9 hole course where almost all of the golfers completed in wet and windy conditions, the overall winners on the day were Colin Viney and Richard Short both players with 38 points, e golf was followed by the ‘DOGS’ end of season Christmas Lunch and Prize Giving for 2021, held in the Dibden Golf Centres Solent Suite. An excellent attendance with 64 attendees, excellent food was provided by the catering sta at the Dibden Golf Centre, Trophies where presented by Keith Maton to all Major Winners for the 2021 Season: Championship Winner Dave Lowman , Pairs Winners Colin Viney and Andy McCaffrey , Singles Winner and Bandit of the year Jamie Stoker , Most improved player for 2021 Jo Reynard , all other individual winners, nearest the pin etc. presented by Colin Peall and Dave Lowman, the day ended by all members showing their appreciation to the’ DOGS’ organisers Colin Peall and Dave Lowman for all their hard work and dedication within the Society throughout the year. 14th December - e ‘DOGS’ played their monthly Stableford, although the conditions were cold and wet all of the 38 golfers completed the course with some excellent returning scores, with the overall winner: Mark Eve 39 pts (CB) 2nd Andy Turnpenny 39 pts 3rd Ken Barge 37 pts (CB) 4th Terry O’Conner 37 pts and 5th Place Peter Mortimer with 36 pts. Pro’s Approach winner Dave Lowman on the 15th hole, Nearest the pins, Colin Peall 11th hole, Jo Renyard 4th hole. 21st December - e ‘DOGS’ competition this week was a 3 man team game played as a Stableford Waltz, again the winter is now in full swing with the cold mornings playing their part. Results: 1st T Oliver, E Nkomo & C Ellis (79 pts), 2nd B Barnard, P Wastell & L Cohen (77 pts) CB 3rd R Hallett, S Lawson & C Viney (77 pts) Steve Lawson producing the best round of the day, with the highest Stableford score of 38 Pts, appearing in the 3rd winning team and nearest the Pin on the 2nd hole, Lew Cohen winning nearest the pin on the tough 17th hole and Nick Dixon winning the best 2 shots nearest the pin (Pro’s Approach) on the 15th hole. 28th December - e ‘DOGS’ played a Texas Scramble: With the 18 hole course closed the competition was played with the competitors playing one round over the 9 hole course in wet, wind and rainy conditions, Playing the 3 man Texas Scramble the winners were: 1st Place: K Barge, R Short & I Cameron (26) - 2nd Place: S Hawkes, A McCaffrey & C Ellis (26.2) 3rd Place: S Lawson, D Lowman & N Dixon (26.5) Nearest the Pins on 2nd & 4th where S Lawson and D Lowman , Pro’s Approach - 2 shots nearest the pin on the 8th hole winner K Maton S Lawson and D Lowman playing well in 3rd place and securing the two nearest the pins. A er the short Christmas break, the juniors (age 7-12) and Tots (age 3-7) of New Forest Martial Arts resumed Karate classes on Mondays and Tuesdays. e children were pleased to be back enjoying the fun- lled programme devised by Sensei Crawford which seeks to give them exercise and some self-defence training. e junior class meets in Applemore Recreation Centre at 4.30pm and the Tots meet at Applemore Scout Hut at 4.10pm.
