A er being frequent visitors to Hythe for over 40 years, Toby and his family decided to settle permanently in Hythe 18 years ago a er their daughter Georgie was born. Hythe has always held a special place in Toby’s heart - as a child Toby’s Grandmother used to save up her pension money and take him on the ever-popular Hythe Ferry via the clickety clack of the train to the end of the tracks where Toby would sh o the end of the pier and nish the day with an ice-cream. Memories of Hythe also included a visit to Robert James (known locally as ‘Geo ’s Shop’) where Geo would always be able to nd something that sparked Toby’s interest! Sadly the sudden passing of Geo in 2018 meant the shop had to shut it doors. Fast forward to today and with UK based holidays on the rise; Toby decided he would bring his passion for the great outdoors to the High Street. Attempting to ll the void that was le by Geo , the Outdoor and Camping Shop ‘NuiBu Outdoors’ opened to the public in the weeks leading up to Christmas. O ering high quality clothing, walking shoes, boots and wellies, they will also be stocking a variety of Bell tents, Vango tents and camping equipment, and for those wild swimmers in the Owner Toby Simpson-Silo outside his new outdoor and camping shop on Hythe High Street area they stock oating dry bags and Switch robes. Toby is also happy to order items if they are not in stock. So when you are next in Hythe, call into NuiBu Outdoors on the High Street to say hello and have a look at this great addition to Hythe. Open Monday to Saturday 9.15am until 5.15pm, with plans to open 7 days a week in July and August. Stations from Clapham Junction to Chandlers Ford, Putney to Portsmouth and Waterloo to Winchester joined together from 6th–11th December 2021 to collect a massive 1,350 shoeboxes of gi s and more than 650 individual gi s as part of SWR’s annual Christmas appeal, nearly double the number collected in 2020. Jim O’Brien, Station Contracts Manager for SWR, who coordinated the appeal, said: “It’s wonderful to see so many people across the SouthWesternRailway network coming together to help vulnerable people in their local communities have a better Christmas. People’s generosity of spirit at the end of what has been another difficult year is truly amazing to see, and I’d like to thank everyone who donated something to the appeal. Their efforts have helped us to collect nearly double the number of boxes that we did last year”.
