Gaenor is a keen competitor and Chelsea Gold medallist, she is also an Area judge with many interests including being a green belt in judo. The Greek period came rst and Gaenor fashioned a lovely arrangement in a cider barrel using a variety of flowers including germinis in various colours. Apparently the term ‘A Bed of Roses’ is from the Greek period when they stuffed mattresses and pillows with rose petals. en they went to China with a Ying and Yang design in a basket, the Chinese being the rst country to make baskets for flower arranging. Canna lillies and a beautiful cymbidium orchid made up this design with halved pomegranates for extra impact. e Victorian period was next with three lovely arrangements made up of red roses and red/ yellow freesias displayed on a March stand (it has three tiers). Art Noveau was represented in a lovely brass container evocative of the era featuring orange roses, aspidestra leaves and dried moss. 1980’s and 1990’s featured an oval basket filled with various greenery including contorted hazel, fatsia leaves and ivy. Pine cones, eryngium and hyper icum complemented canna lillies and a mini cymbidium lilly. e nale was a tall silver container featuring a modern design containing oriental lillies, roses and palm leaves. A stunning arrangement. ey hope to welcome Gaenor to Hythe in the future. Hythe Flower Club is a very friendly club, open to men and women of all ages and to anyone with an interest in owers. ey meet on the second Thursday of the month in the Hythe Parish Hall, just along from Hythe Marina. e meetings start at 7pm with ower arranging demonstrations starting at 7.30pm. eir next meeting is on Thursday 10th March for a demonstration by Alison Finch titled ‘Toy Stories’.
