At the 10th February meeting the speaker gave a talk entitled ‘A Tour Around Southampton’ illustrated by the postcards of F.G.O Stuart, Edwardian photographer and postcard publisher. e next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 10th March, 7.30pm, at Netley Marsh Community Hall, Woodlands Rd, SO40 7GH. The Austin A30/A35 Owners’ Club, Southampton and New Forest Group, would like to invite potential new members that are owners of any make of classic car, not forgetting those enthusiasts who love them but don’t have their own, to go along and meet them with a view to joining. All are welcome. Members enjoy a friendly, social atmosphere at the monthly meetings. Every meeting includes a ra e. ere are occasional quizzes, speakers on various topics and club drive days. ey also hold an annual auction in aid of the local Honeypot children’s charity. Some members have other makes of classics such as Riley, Morris, Land Rover and Volkswagen enabling the club to expand the range of vehicle manufacturers to complement their Austin A30/35 models. e club is in the unique position of owning Austin Motor Spares Service Ltd, which holds a vast range of highly valued stock, possibly the largest in the world. New, used and reconditioned parts are sold by Robert Austin A35 Racing at Goodwood (Photo by Ben Cowdrey) and Rick Prinn who are experts and able to o er comprehensive advice and help. e January meeting started as usual with club business. en continued with a ‘Nostalgia A to Z’ led by the chairman which ‘sparked’ lively interaction, with the members taking a trip down memory lane of Ancient Egypt e Southampton Ancient Egypt Society (SAES) next meeting will be on Saturday 19th March for Nicky Nielsen ‘Excavating the City of the Snake Goddess: Flinders Petrie at Tell Nabash ’ , from 1.30pm for a 2pm start. In the Spring of 1886, British archaeologist Flinders Petrie conducted excavations at the site of Tell Nabasha in the north-eastern Nile Delta. In this talk, they will explore the most signi cant discoveries in the area, focusing in particular on the material from the site now held in the collections of the British Museum. Nicky Nielsen is a Senior Lecturer in Egyptology at the University of Manchester. He is also the author of two books on ancient Egypt: Pharaoh Seti I (2017) and Egyptomaniacs (2020). His research focuses on ancient Egyptian material culture of the New Kingdom and Late Period. e Society are meeting over Zoom at the moment due to COVID-19 restrictions.
