Hythe Pier Heritage Association in conjunction with volunteers from e Shed (at the Pier) and engineers from Blue Funnel Ferries have dismantled Carriage No. 1 and will reassemble with new sections of the undercarriage framework, new side and end frames and roo ng but will retain as much of the original material as possible. All seating and many of the xtures are still in good condition and will simply need cleaning and a fresh coat of varnish. Carriage 1, like Carriage 4 which was restored and put back on track last year, arrived at Hythe in June 1922 in time for the introduction of the train onto the pier a month later. Hythe Pier Heritage Association will celebrate the Centenary on Saturday 23rd July . All being well, not only will the second carriage be ready and back on track, but so too will be a restored second locomotive.
