Wessex Cancer Trust will use its funding over the next three years to continue to provide a range of emotional and wellbeing support; including counselling, befriending, complementary therapies and support groups at its four cancer support centres, one of which is the Waterside support centre at e Grove, St John’s Street, Hythe. Rachel Billsberry-Grass, Wessex Cancer Trust’s CEO, said: “It’s widely understood that a cancer diagnosis can affect how we feel emotionally, and research shows that people with cancer identify a lack of emotional support as a great challenge. Additionally, many will be all too aware of the impact COVID-19 has had on cancer services. Wessex Cancer Trust relies on donations and fundraising, and so grants like this are vitally important. Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant will help towards the costs of our wellbeing and emotional support services over the next three years, and it will make a direct impact to the lives of local people.” Everyone’s experience of cancer is di erent. To nd out how Wessex Cancer Trust can support you, please drop in to the Waterside centre, telephone: 023 8178 0409 or visit: www.wessexcancer.org.uk Vital funds enable Support Centres to provide support for those affected by cancer On Your Bike Wessex Heartbeat, which supports cardiac patients and their families in the Southampton area and beyond, has announced The Hendy Wessex Heartbeat Cycle Sportive , which is now running in its 6th year, has been moved to Sunday 20th March. e Wessex Heartbeat Cycle Sportive will take place in the beautiful Test Valley, commencing and nishing in the grounds of Embley Park in Romsey. Participants will have the chance to take on a 40-mile route, or a more challenging 70-mile course. Taking cyclists through Romsey over to Winchester, Stockbridge and Broughton where the 70- and 40-mile routes split, the longer route travels over to Salisbury and the shorter 40-mile route travels back to Romsey via East Tytherley. Money raised will go to Wessex Heartbeat and will go towards the cardiac charity’s refurbishment of its home-from-home Heartbeat House. Anyone living across the New Forest, Waterside and Totton areas is welcome, you do not have to be known to Oakhaven as a patient. All the workshops are free. e Relaxation Workshop is designed to help participants learn a variety of strategies to help them relax and includes a guided relaxation session to learn for home. Join a workshop on Wednesday 30th March 10am until 12noon or Friday 29th April 2pm until 4pm Finding it hard to sleep? e Managing Poor Sleep workshop explores the importance of sleep and why our sleep patterns can become disrupted and looks at a variety of strategies aimed at improving poor sleep. e session ends with a guided relaxation session. ere are workshops taking place on Friday 8th April and Wednesday 20th April 2pm until 4pm In an Introduction to Aromatherapy, you will explore the bene ts of Aromatherapy and essential oils which have been used for thousands of years. Spend some time smelling di erent essential oils and learn about their potential health bene ts and have the opportunity to make an Aromatherapy product to use at home. is workshop takes place on Friday 29th April 10am until 12noon. A 2 hour Massage workshop to learn the bene ts of massage and learn to safely give yourself or others a simple hand massage, to help you or others feel rejuvenated.
