His fear was that if he was unable to attend his daughter’s birthday this would imprint on her that her father was not there on her special day. Whilst Kanye West is an A-list celebrity, this issue could arise for any separating couple and emphasises the importance of thinking ahead and planning how special occasions involving children should be handled. e courts would expect parents to make decisions in their child’s best interest but what if the parents can’t agree? If parents cannot reach an agreement about the arrangements, one parent could make an application to the Court. is would allow the Court to decide how the child’s welfare should be dealt with. e decision to apply to the court to determine such issues shouldn’t be taken lightly and only considered as a last resort. ere are alternative ways to reach an agreement. Mediation is available to both parties and solicitors can also be used to help them reach an agreement. A child’s birthday is an important day when they feel special.
