It further dispels all lingering doubt about the status of the rst carriage actually being the rst, renovated and put back of track in May 2021. The two bespoke carriages were ordered from the Drewry Car Company of London by Mr omas Percy on behalf of his General Estates Company for the tramway he proposed to establish on Hythe’s historic pier using tractor units he had procured from a War O ce redundant plant catalogue in 1920. ey were built by Baguley Cars of Burton-on-Trent as a part of a working arrangement between the two companies, the rst arriving in Maty 1921. is marvellous piece of early 20th Century engineering has trundled up and down the pier since its inauguration in July 1922. On 23rd July this year, Hythe Pier Heritage Association will stage a centenary celebration which will incorporate its annual music festival ‘Rock the Pier’, this year rebranded ‘Rock the Train’.
