I joined the team during lockdown in 2020, at a time where most meet ups were via Zoom, popular events were cancelled and most pubs, restaurants and cafés were ‘take out only’. What we lacked in events to promote, we excelled in community. With online charity quizzes being held every week, along with groups stitching and sewing making facemasks for charity, and volunteers supporting the vulnerable - the community stepped up and supported local people and local businesses. ere really was no better time to see what this amazing community is made of! I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our loyal customers and the Herald team for making me feel so welcome; Paula, Louise and James and not forgetting the ever faithful Max the Chocolate Lab! I will still be in the local area, working from home, back within the education sector and will continue to champion Barry’s Farm in Hythe, submitting regular updates on the animals and the projects planned for 2022. Stepping into the role is Sarah Bartlett who joined the Herald at the beginning of March. Sarah has spent most of her working life in marketing and communications for the education sector, working for Brockenhurst College and then the University of Southampton. Sarah took a career break in 2015 to have her family and more recently you may have seen her working in Boots in Hythe on Saturdays. Sarah has lived in the Waterside for the majority of her life and is passionate about helping both people and businesses to nd their voice and share their stories with the community. Sarah enjoys meeting people and nding out what’s happening in the local area. Sarah urges everyone to keep sharing information about local news and events and she will keep up with deadline reminders but please call in and have a chat with her.
