New this year was the presentation of a brand new Members’ Cup, awarded for outstanding achievement or contribution to the club over the past year. Amid the lock downs and inability to use Applemore College workshops, the club was kept going through the use of a member’s barn (during the warmer months) and so the cup was awarded jointly to Mary Manston who so generously made the facilities available and even provided cake and co ee and to Paul Humphriss who looked a er the club tools and brought them plus a large table, spare work benches and assorted blocks Romsey and Waterside Lions are pleased to announce that their Ladies Fashion Show will return on Tuesday 10th May at 7.30pm in the Hythe and Dibden Parish Hall, West Street, Hythe. It is always a well-attended event raising funds for local charities. e Fashion Show is for all ages, and all the clothes from High Street stores can be purchased at heavily discounted prices on the night. e entry ticket price has been kept down to £9, and with a glass of zz included in the ticket price it is set to be a time to relax and enjoy some retail therapy. Tickets must be bought in advance from Lion Maureen Geere (telephone 023 8089 1351), Dawkins & Lodge (telephone 023 8084 3798), Sandra’s Florist (023 8089 0332) or Compuco Ltd (023 8089 4714). Romsey and Waterside Lions last Fashion Show of wood to each of the barn sessions. e annual Wood Block Challenge had a revised timetable due to late issue of the wood blocks in 2021. Instead of voting for them at the brilliant Christmas party, members had 3 extra months to turn out their masterpieces on this year’s theme ‘Myths and legends’. Once again there were prizes in both experienced and novice categories. Pieces submitted included a lot of dragons, a couple of unicorns, Easter Island heads, a Loch Ness Monster and e King’s new clothes. e winning piece was an intricate carving of St George slaying the dragon by Allan Mechen. Winner in the novice category was Dot Woodland with a cute dragon. Carving workshops will continue every other ursday evening, 6.30-8.30pm at Applemore College from 28th April .
