Meetings start at 7.30pm at Netley Marsh Community Hall, Woodlands Road, Netley Marsh and their next meeting takes place on Tuesday 10th May when they will be holding a Plant Sale. SCHOOLS ARE INVITED TO DESIGN A PLATINUM JUBILEE GARDEN Infant and junior schools throughout the UK are being invited to design a garden to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen. e only stipulations are that the centerpiece of the garden must depict the St Edward’s Crown, which was used to crown e Queen at her Coronation on 2nd June 1953, and there must be su cient space at the school to create the garden. e competition has been created by Forest Garden, the UK’s leading producer of timber garden sheds, fencing, planters and greenhouses. e school with the winning design can use any of the products from the current catalogue which can be downloaded at: www. forestgarden.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/ Forest-2022-Brochure-for-website_3.pdf “We are working with the multi award winning garden designer, Martyn Wilson, who will help us judge entries,” says Jenny Davis, Marketing Manager at Forest Garden. “ We want the children to express themselves in any way they feel is appropriate, the only two stipulations are the use of the crown, which can be in any format, and there must be space at their school to create the garden.” Jenny makes it clear that the depiction of the crown can be in any format the designers choose including plants, models or weather-proof drawings. e winning entry will receive any products they want from the Forest Garden catalogue to be used in the garden plus £500 towards the cost of plants. “The Platinum Jubilee is very exciting and we want to encourage children to link it back to nature and gardening. Martyn will visit the winning school to advise them on the building of their garden which will be formally opened in May 2023, ahead of the celebrations marking 70 years of the Coronation,” adds Jenny. Designs should be submitted on paper and not via social media or online. Any schools seeking advice should email: grahampaskett@paskett.co.uk . e closing date for entries is 15th June 2022 and the winning school will be noti ed in July, before the beginning of the summer holidays. e Healthy Haven Garden at the Waterside Medical Practice are having a Grand Open Day on Saturday 23rd July from 10am to 3pm. ere will be cra stalls, the Praizin Hand Puppets Group, Surrey ice creams, food vans and music. e music includes a Ukulele group, Summer Worsley with 70’s and Country music and Andrew Rance singing and on the keyboard. Balmer Lawn Honda of Dibden Purlieu will be showing two of their cars. is is the rst open day that the garden is having since it opened in May 2019. Now we are learning to live with COVID-19 they want to showcase the Healthy Haven Garden and let the whole community enjoy it and have some fun.
